Music In The Mini Bop

Postby Mr_Big_Dave on Sat Jan 29, 2005 4:14 pm

What did you think of the music in the mini bop last night? Not the usual cheese, it was nearly all dance...

Mohawk did a good job with all the lighting in the bar- it looked great. (tantrum aside)

The dance music was rubbish - it would have been better with a mixture of pop, r'n'b, dance etc

While the music at the start of the evening wasn't all that great, it was far better than the dance music nonsense we had to contend with later.

Once the lights stopped trying to blind and/or induce epilpetic fits, they were ok.

Quite why we needed a minibop though, is beyond me.

i'd like to apologise to any of the public who were disorientated when the lights came up unexpectedly early, this was due to me pressing a wrong button whilst trying to prove a point to one of our sabbatical staff,

it is too complicated to explain, all i meant was to raise the light level slightly so people would not be adversely affected by the shut down of the intelligent disco lights for a 5 minute period, instead one wrong button later and all the lights go up,

it was merely a health and safety consideration, (we cannot have people falling over in pitch black) and i hope it didn't detract from the enjoyment of your evening.

if anyone has any suggestions about the music or what music should have been played then perhaps you should email doserv@st-and.ac.uk with any suggestions you may have.

Warmest Regards,

I think it was the rubbish dance music that detracted from the evening. What's wrong with abit of cheese on a Friday night?

I totally agree the music on Friday was crap, and the dj was not open to suggestions, the reason they are there in the first place is to enhance peoples enjoyment not ruin the night for people. All in all arg.

Dance music is surely the tackiest genre of them all, and as such entirely suitable. Tunes like 'Call On Me' are near unbeatable in the cheese stakes.

personally i thought the dj was great, however possibly not the correct venue for that sort of music.

and mohawk - your 'proving a point to a sabb' was not needed.

i felt it was, it is merely a matter of opinion.

so what if it was petty and unproffesional? it got my message over nice and clear.

anyway, i'd rather not discuss it here.

If you'd like to discuss it further liliputian you know where i can be found.

actually i think mohawk's djing was pretty good. there was something in there for everyone, a good mix is hard to achieve and he did a pretty good job. shame about that ned-mobile pap we had to put up with from the "proper" DJ. MORE POWER TO THE HAWK!

The ceiling in the main bar was too low for the "scanners". It looked alright considering though.

You'd rather not discuss it here, and yet you're perfectly happy to disturb a bar full of people to prove your point? That doesn't make sense.

Unless of course you now regret your actions?

People who work tirelessly for our entertainment in the Union, and without any pay, should not be criticised in such uncivil tones. Constructive comments - if totally necessary - perhaps, but otherwise just leave it.

It's their choice to work without pay, hence why I don't do it. I have the experience, but I decided if I wasn't going to get paid there was no point.

They should be criticised when something is wrong, it's how you realise your mistakes and learn from them.

I think his initial posting makes it obvious that he was aware there was a mistake, and he apologises for it. To keep stessing it is what I find disagreeable, especially when, unlike yourself, he chooses to do the job without pay.

Talking of which, they should be paid.

Cheap talk from someone who is apparently extremely disparging about the kind of critical observations which can lead to improvements in services.

If everyone bites their lips and pretends everything is great - how can anything ever improve? As they say, acknowledging there is a problem is the first step toward solving it.

Granted that shouldn't be seen as a basis upon which unfounded or personal comments should be launched - however, simply because the truth isn't pretty doesn't mean it shouldn't be spoken aloud.

Anyway...

The music was shit (in my opinion) and not suitable for a bar!
