Maybe a confusion between GMT and BST? As in Duckgirl is giving the time according to GMT whereas the rest of us are presumably working on BST?

i recommend going along at 3, when the beach is relatively quiet and there's a few people partying.

its a very relaxed atmosphere, and you can just lose yourself in the experience. Don't take your watch either; when it's time to go in you'll know, and you won't need a watch to tell you.

So...what's everyone doing to pass the time? I'm alternating between coffee and kronenbourg. I recommend this mix to everyone.

Alternating between orange&raspberry juice and whisky.

This is also something I would recommend.

Edit: For typoes. This may be something to do with the above combination...Or it may not.

Remember - it gets really light before sunrise and most people go in before the official time. I suggest 3AM (this being my fourth dip)

I'm getting ready to come out, wrapping up warm, don't know if I'll "dip" or not but I'll certainly be watching.

Just got back from the dip. Absolutely amazing experience. I'm sitting, wrapped in my duvet, feeling the affects of beer, adrenaline and possibly hypothermia.

Goodnight all!

Now some people weren't happy about the content of that last post. And we can't have someone not happy. Not on the internet.

Brrr.... that was fun! I feel strangely not tired now. It's amazing how much the North Sea can sober you up, too.

MY FEET! OH GODS, MY FEET!

Nevermind the temperature of the water, it's those fiendish pebbles in the water that kill you.

I'm also surprised at how eloquent I am despite being drunk for several hours. One of the finest moments of the year, whoo!

Pebbles were bad on the feet ONLY AFTER THEY'D BEEN IN THE NORTH SEA. They were so cold i couldn't walk on them back home, eveny step hurt. I thought i'd cut them but it was a case of my feet going 'You crazy fool! Why in God's good name did you feel the desire to get up at 3am and run into the North Sea?'
Great fun though. Had a few more hours sleep so feel refreshed ... but still bloody cold!

By god that water was cold!!. Actually staggered out of the water as my muscles could hold me up properly. My ex-flatmate who was in even longer than me got so far out of the watedr then fell over, unable to get up!! Why oh why do we have such lunatic traditions?? Anyway was fantastic fun all round and was a brilliant atmosphere.

Just out of interest did anyone pick up an Academic gown that is not theirs? Mine went missing, it is an old style gown with a name tag of William E Kell in it. (I think that I got the name right, iot may be slightly different, it is the best that i can do having had no sleep since yesterday!!

It was, as I commented, a fantastic display of humanity. All those people, some of them naked naked and all of them being absolutely mental.

Big thanks to the nice person that gave me a cup of coffee and to the several people who seemed to know me that I didn't recognise.

However, I think next year we need to put in a lift, that path up the cliff got a bit packed.

Also: Auntie Edna - did you go in at all? You seemed in quite a flap when I saw you - "Just think of what your dearly departed husband would say" I said, but you just warbled "I'm seventy six you know!" and wandered off.

I may be wrong, but I believe the average temperature of the North Sea is 7 degrees.
