Posts Removed

Postby Admin on Fri Jun 22, 2007 7:35 pm

The initial email was apparently private, so shouldn't have been posted online.
I've received three emails today requesting its removal, so I'm erring on the side of caution, and have removed it from the site. Any questions, please email admin@thesinner.net

Yo Louise,
Send the e-mail to me, please. Just because they asked Oli to take it down doesn't mean you can't forward it to all of us cynics.

Frankly, I think the removal of the email was ridiculous.

Why? If you sent an email to someone in confidence would you want it reproduced on a public forum?

it wasn't a personal email. It was a supposedly business email, and, even more importantly, an *unsolicited* email. Unsolicited business email. Sounds like spam. It sounded like a scam. Scams never want their targets to tell anyone. And they tell them to ignore the oddities and inconsistencies.

Spam is not specific (ok, too a certain extent it is) about who recieves it. Whereas this was sent to a specific person from an individual (by the sounds of it) just giving a heads/looking for feedback about his idea.
So if he complained about it being posted (which by the sounds of it, he did) on a public forum then I don't see why his complaint should not be upheld.

It wasn't sent to a specific person though. It read as if it had been sent to all the outgoing Senior Students in the hope that they would forward it to the right people. So, that's twelve or so people. Plus the incoming Senior Students. Plus all the members of the various hall committees. Still, I suppose you can't get much more private than that.

Besides, if someone is talking about opening a business that is reliant on people knowing about it but doesn't want people to know about it... Well, I'd suggest people are right to think "scam".

Hi,

Just to address a few issues on this page. It is real - we are building a club outside St Andrews. We don't want to disclose the location yet though, we'd prefer to let people know where it is once it's complete.

Also, the e-mail that was sent is private correspondance. If you had checked the to: box, you would have realised that it WAS sent to all the other senior students, not just yourself.

How some people have managed to come to the conclusion that it's a scam or a wind-up is beyond me. It's quite clearly an e-mail sent out by our marketing guys, trying to get involved with the hall committees for events.

Anyway, we'll be publicising the club probably by the start of September '07. I've e-mailed the site administrator to take down this post, due to it containing a private e-mail within it, but if people would like to discuss the club or anything they would like in it, I'll make sure the thread is read by the relevant people.

If you'd bothered to check facebook (from the name on the original e-mail), you'd see that I'm actually an ex-student from St Andrews, and a friend of mine pointed out that this thread had appeared this morning.

Any questions, queries, ideas etc, feel free to open a new thread and I'll happily participate in the discussions!

Thanks,

Chris

How can it be a private email if it was unsolicited and sent out en mass to people you don't even know? couldn't you be the same guy as who did the whole skeleton key thing? That's why everyone thinks this is a scam. Too many things don't quite jive.

look i'm sorry, but it was an unsolicited email - the sender didn't even know me, just that i was a senior student. i didn't post it on here because i thought it was a scam, i just wanted to see if anyone else had heard anything like where it might be etc. i certainly didn't get the impression that it was a strictly private email that couldn't be shown to anyone, given i was requested to forward it to my successor. also the email was sent from a business email address, not the guy's personal one, so i definitely wouldn't consider it to be private.

We were having a wee chat about this at work tonight. One thing that did pop up was possible locations for the venue.

I reckon it could be somewhere up at Kinkell Farm, as it has been suggested, as Sandy Fyfe could quite easily convert some of his storage in to a club venue. Either that or there is an old garage near guardbridge that fits the 800 sqm size that was mentioned in the letter and both of these sites could be reached in 4 mins.

To be honest, it can't be much of a secret as I'm assuming they will have had to apply for a entertainments / drinks license. I'm sure a call to fife council might unearth any applications.

Just my thoughts so far, but all very intriguing.

I do recall seeing a group or message on Facebook a few months ago whereby some guy, an alumni I believe, was rather keen on getting the opinion of people as he was considering setting up a nightclub in or near St Andrews. Unfortunately, I can't find that group now, but it's probably still out there. Based upon what the guy said earlier ("If you'd bothered to check facebook (from the name on the original e-mail), you'd see that I'm actually an ex-student from St Andrews"), I wonder if it's the same guy.

Really? From what I remember of the email, it mentioned not telling people about it.

It would be a bit difficult to tell the new Senior Students if the recipients of the email weren't to tell anyone about it.
