yeah, the first bit wasn't up to much, but i suppose he had to set the scene somehow. (it's called northern lights over here btw) they're brilliant books, i don't know why they're compared to hp so much though, (not that HP isn't brilliant) but the dark materials are, as the name suggests, so much darker, jk's GoF is pretty dark, but not really on the same level as the subtle knife etc.
i agree about the kids reading though - surely parents should be happy that their children are sat with their heads in a book as oposed to glued to a tv/computer screen. ah well.

HRm...just to go further with my Snape theory and the phoenix imagery that someone mentioned with Dumbledore doing a Gandalf.
Remember in the first book that Snape said he could even teach you to "put a stopped in death"?
Could just as easily mean he'll do a gandalf too.

ugh, Snape back from the dead? he's be even more cadaverous than usual, not a good call.

Does anyone else think Harry might get with Ginny Weasley while Ron and Hermione get together? I think that'd be cute. And he can get over his asinine crush on Cho Chang.

Ron/Hermione and Harry/Ginny, in the sense of canon, seem to be the most likely partnerships within the trio, but things never work as smoothly as they should with JK, do they?

...But the slasher in me wants Harry and Ron to have a thing going on

*sighs*

I read far too much fanfic while waiting for OotP to come out. Mind you, Harry/Ron aren't as nummy as Remus/Severus *drools quietly*

I think JK said that in book 5 people would have girlfriends/boyfriends but that the people they go out with wouldn't be the people they really love so i think we may need to wait til book 6 to see the right pairing up happening. Anyone else seeing in book 6 or 7 ron and hermione / harry and ginny will get together and voldemort or somebody will curse them or something but the spell will be broken by true love a la Beauty and the Beast/ any fairy tale.

I wouldn't put it past both Ron and Harry to be secretly dying of love for Hermione, letting concealment like a worm i' the bud feed upon their respective damask cheeks, but can't really see Hermione going for either of them. As far as character goes, I think a Hermione-Harry merger would be more probable than one between Hermione and Ron, but that wouldn't be likely due to plot restrictions.

Ron and Hermione is inevitable, has been leading to that in the books (Ron got just a tad jealous of that quidditch player whose name escapes me right now - was in book 4) and they also had that stupid scene in the 2nd film at the end when hermione comes up and hugs harry and then has an awkward moment with Ron

yeah, and don't forget the idiocy of the ball in Goblet of Fire, when Ron and Hermione get in a fight and she says 'if you wanted to go with me you should have asked' and Ron gets all embarassed. Lot of ands there, sorry about that.

i'm not that kind of a fan, the bog-standard book from the shops does for me :) but if you check on e-bay or there's a harry potter collectors site somewhere (my friend uses it, but i don't have a clue of the name, i'm sure it'd be easy to find with google or something) they'd no doubt have the prices. i'm sure to a dedicated fan they'd be worth a shedload.
