Does anyone have any suggestions of jobs I could do or places I could apply to? Obviously english teaching is one idea, but the people would have to be pretty good alr...

Edited to add details: It's a Palm Zire 72s Special Edition. Comes boxed with instruction manual. Included is: The handheld palm (obviously!), USB hotsync...

Thanks for the replies. Munchingfoo - That's a great idea about open office...I don't really know much about it though. The main applications I need are some sort of versions of word and powerpoint. Do you know whether the programs in open office would be fully compatible with the MS office versions...

Computer question

I was hoping someone could give some computer advice to a very non-computer literate person please... I recently bought a new computer (laptop) and my parents want my old computer (desktop) as it still runs fine and is adequate for what they will use it for. Before I give it to them, I would like to...

Re:

Thanks for all your advice. I was thinking of a Dell inspiron 1525. http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/inspnnb_1525?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&s=dhs I know Haunted suggested higher specs than these, but although I want to get what I need, I'm a bit pressed for cash, so don't wan...

Re:

Thanks for the reply. I don't want to play games on it - though I guess I would probably like to be able to store a fair bit of music. The Alienware ones look good but a bit out of my price range... Can anyone give me an idea of the minimum values I should be looking at for the different specs? ie. ...

Buying a laptop - advice please?

As suggested in the title, I would like to buy a laptop. I currently have a Dell desktop which is approaching 5 years old and is fine, but now I am increasingly needing something portable. I am pretty clueless when it comes to computer specs, so could anyone give me any tips as to what are the impor...

Re:

Please try not to worry too much. (easier said than done, I know!) In my experience, the university has been very supportive of illness affecting exams, and I'm sure they will be able to sort something out. Nicky Haxell is very helpful and very nice. Obviously I don't know what will happen, but I wo...

Re:

Incidentally, Tesco have a policy of checking ID of everyone in a group if one person buys alcohol.

So does that mean that a parent shopping with a child can't buy a bottle of wine?

My flatmate, who is 22, tried to buy a packet of sewing needles in Alldays, but wasn't allowed since she didn't have any ID on her at the time!!!
We weren't aware that there was even a restriction on sewing needles!

Yoga class

I was wondering if anyone knows if the yoga class that used to run last year on tuesdays at 4pm in the salad bowl in the union is still going at the same time / place? And how much does it cost? (I think it might have been run by the Applied Eastern Philosophy Society, but I'm not entirely sure.) Th...

Re:

You should definitely speak to your course coordinator, and make sure they are aware of your situation BEFORE you receive your results. I would also advise speaking to Nikki Haxell - the academic support advisor in student support services. She will negotiate with the department on your behalf. If y...

I was going to sign-up for volunteering but was waiting to find out which days I would be free...but now it seems the form isn't there anymore. Or maybe I just can't find it. Can someone point me towards it or tell me who I should email about volunteering?? Thanks.

Dance Classes

Was wondering if anyone knows if there are any dance classes/yoga classes of any sort continuing in St Andrews over the summer, or just for the time being, or where the nearest one would be and where I would find this out. Cheers!

Re:

Some of the halls have music rooms with drumkits in - it depends where your staying -i know New Hall does. But as Shabba pointed out, the music centre has two. You can book a room in advance but they're not usually too booked up. If you join at the start of the year, you dont have to pay to use them...

Re:

Definitely go and see student support...they are great and will be able to sort you out. With a reason like yours i'm sure they will give you special consideration in your exams. They will send a memo to the exam board and to your course coordinators as well. Good luck - hope you get it sorted.
