Re:

more people would probably be aware that there is a protest. Not everyone reads the sinner

True, but most people should have seen at least one of the 138 posters that went up.

Re:

Because of the very rushed nature of the independent rent rises campaign, they were only contacted at the start of last week. Correspondence was marked with "URGENT" in very big letters, and royal mail does only take a day. They never wrote back, or phoned. We focused on MSPs because MPs would just ...

Thank you to everyone who has helped with the rents

This is an open post just to say thank you to everyone who has helped. For students, whether you were one of the almost 200 who attended the protest, the 2000+ who signed the petition or the hundreds who sent an email to Derek in his first appeal, thank you. Also thanks to the countless graduates wh...

Petition passes 2,000 signatures

The petition against the rent rises has just surged past the golden 2,000 mark.

If there was any sign that tomorrow's protest may be large enough to have an effect, it's that.

The time to act is now.

*BUMP* And to rational-mind - how do you know what is subsidising what? ...Unless you wholeheartedly trust the figures of a decision-making executive aiming to maximise their funding. Personally, I'd like to see an independent study done. After all, the last published accounts of the University that...

Rent Rises : Protest Friday

To everyone who has wanted to do something about the rent rises, here is your chance to put your mouth where your money is. This is to let you know that there's going to be a protest on Friday morning in and around St Mary's Quad on South Street - that's the 20th, THIS Friday - organised by the Sinn...

Re:

Did the powers that be ever give a reason why they are not including a major part of hall income, ie summer earnings, in their calculations? Surely that counts as fiddling the books? Feck knows. And the student representatives who've been shown the figures. For everybody else, your guess is as good...

Why don't you just get a copy of the petition sent?

We will, but that's a main article news story. The fact though that many people have chosen to write individually will greater impress upon them the weight of the issue.

Rent Rises: one easy action to help fight them

For those of you who don't know, an organised anti-rent rises campaign has begun, independent of the Students' Association. There is a petition doing the rounds, which should be available in halls. This is partially to work as itself, but also to try to persuade local politicians onto our side. Plea...
