Re:

"there is no denying that modern animal agriculture is cruel and that the brief lives of these animals are miserable and painful." I rather resent this. My father was a traditional Scottish hill farmer. The animals were well treated and the landscape was as far removed from a factory setting as it i...

Re:

I voted the pro-choice option despite being a life-long non-smoker. I really enjoy a smoke-free atmosphere but I'm cautious about removing other people’s freedoms unnecessarily. Fair enough having a ban on smoking on public transport (which I'm forced to use from time to time) but no one is forcing ...

What Would You Change About The Olympics?

How do you think the Olympics could be improved? New events? Get rid of current ones? Are they perfect already? I would allow professionals in. First because the "amateurs only" rule was only introduced to keep out the working class who could not afford to take a foreign holiday if they weren't paid...

The Tofu Taliban

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/newspaper/0,,174-1196084,00.html I have never been able to understand how someone could hold the life of a mouse to be just as valuable as a human. I have (very occasionally) been accused of hypocrisy by vegetarian friends for being fond of dogs and cats but eating meat ...

Censorship and safety

Article in the news today: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2-1195288,00.html What is the board's views on censorship for "the common good"? "Won't someone think of the children?!">> Rev. Lovejoy's wife. Violent movies, games and videos are so often used as scapegoats by people who don't like...

A clone of my own

I think I would find a clone annoyingly predictable. I would get right on my tits. I may even end up in a fight with my clone and beat myself to death.

Re:

"it should be mandatory that they wear cycling helmets and lights" I'm fairly sure it is mandatory to have lights on your bike if you're cycling at night. As for helmets, bicycles go a little slower than motorbikes and, in any case, I am generally against banning any individual liberty where the onl...

Re:

I think it's more accurate to describe atheism as an idea than a belief (see "Dogma"). If God Himself appeared to me and threatened me with a few lightning bolts/plague of boils/locusts I think my idea would change in light of this new evidence.

Re:

A Hindu priest, a rabbi and evangelical Christian were travelling together when they were overcome with fatigue. They stopped at a farmhouse and asked for lodging, but the farmer said he had room for only two. One of them would have to spend the night in the barn. "I'll go," said the Hindu priest, a...
