Re:

What about the polarization of the student community. Already lines have been drawn throughout our timy coastal town depending on how much money you have to spend (or are willing to) and a lot of the community spirit (in my opinion essential to such a small student body) will be lost if students are...

Re:

nothing really. pretty much exactly what you´re saying. Only that highlighting the problem sort of perpetuates the problem. Affirmative action being a prime example of this.

So, what's going on at RockSoc next year.

Anyone excited? Any changes? Any cool gigs? How about direction? Keep up the good work or a re-think? I have had my reservations about some of the comittee members in the past- is there any new blood? I'd like to hear more alt-rock a la sonic youth from time to time. ALt soc won't play them coz they...

Re:

Are you talikng about people who fake their accents to sound posh or just because sounding like you are from barnsley, or essex or glasgow isn't considered to be educated and respectable. I know we would all like to say, and believe me, we sinner folk do love to take the moral high ground of "we are...

Re:

When will you all finally realise that manic has a serious point. The poor guy/girl has the same problem that most of us have had at some point and a lot of people who don't have a huge allowance from their parents deal with all the time. St. Andrews is shockingly expensive and it is the responsibil...

Re:

when you do party, be careful to: 1. Vary it (where you go, what you do) 2. Do not sit in the corner with the first group of friends you meet. St. Andrews isn't huge so try in the first month, whilst making good close friends, to know EVERYONE! 3. Make an effort to know where the big parties and eve...

Crisis over- Until next January

I wrote a message on the thread about Murrat, Donald and Caithness about Estate agents in St. Andrews (blood on their hands). OK, I was exagerrating but I really remember the lit problem and flat hunting and it was hell on earth. I think that it is undeniable that the problem of finding flats in St....

Re:

I have to take a re-sit but I'm not really too bothered. Its for economics too. I only need a 5. I was ill on the day of the exam and this was my only option but at least I get to unpack my apartment early so I can fully enjoy freshers week! Yay!

They all suck

I understand both sides of the argument for payment plans but i think its missing the point. Estate agents in St. Andrews have limited housing, huge demand and a student population that is on average richer than most other uni's (I saw some figures somewhere). This means that they can charge what th...

Student lifestyle

I have, really, been on a binge since freshers week in first year. After spending an incredible amount of money on alcohol, clubs, bar food and the like I managed to get a fairly big debtand that is even with a good weekly allowance from my parents. I slept badly for a year and neglected my academic...

Re:

Hmmmm. I think its practice. See, I moved around and when I went to a public school I was ill-prepared for irony, wit and sarcasm that was around. I got used to it after a while. Then I moved to america and lost the skill since it was way over their heads. Then I came back and re-learned it. A long-...
