It still really annoys me when Americans call St Andrews UNIVERSITY a school. It is the UK, not America although it is easy to be mistaken in St Andrews.

It is not 'easy' but rather as only a 5 is needed students don't feel under the same pressure to study as in higher years.I think it would also be fair to say that work is marked more generously in first year and the workload is also lighter, at least in modules I have taken.

Surely it also depends on what year you are in as some departments might not admit you for honours unless you have enough credits at end of second year. But if it is first year then just do an extra module next year.

Think it is cheaper if you join the swimming club too. Think they are also able to use the St Leonards pool at selected times but not sure.
