Re:

I lived in Gannochy from 2004-2006, room 10, (though have lived in a flat since) - and honestly it's not as grim as the outside of the building looks. ;) I have many fond memories of the place, save for the fire alarms at 3am. haha. It can be a very social place if you want it to be - knock on doors...

Re:

We don't get a list of matric numbers when we're marking art history exams. And like McK said, when you have a huge stack of exams in front of you with a two day turn-around time you really don't care about "well I think this handwriting belongs to student A". With the randomisation it's also pretty...

Re:

Get rid of Gradskills. Seriously. They're a waste of time - I don't need hand-holding whilst doing a PhD. Either that, or offer something useful. Advanced archival work (aka. how to get cranky archivists to hand over the documents you need, or copies thereof), Paleography for 17th Century Venetian N...

Anyone else getting people looking for housing on webmail??

Is anyone else getting loads of requests from people looking for housing on webmail from pgsoc list (I think that's who it's from - I've deleted them)? And how do we stop getting those e-mails? The last one was from someone asking this very question. Very annoying. [hr] ~*~*~*~ "And the day came whe...

Re:

Lucky - I'm still waiting for a magic breakthrough in my research that proves my thinking and disproves all the academic squabbling surrounding it. I can only hope. In any case, double check your work. Have someone else who understands it check for any little errors which might have slipped by. Mayb...

Re:

I still can't log into hotmail or MSN from Resnet, a few minutes ago the screen returned a message about Jothan and a server, and now it's returning a 404 not found message. This is annoying. I'm wasting more time not checking my e-mail than I would if it worked. [hr] ~*~*~*~ "And the day came when ...

I thought it was good fun! Though at one point I gave my torch to some random guy who didn't have one as I didn't want to get burned by it (already had wax all over my hands). :D I shall wear the wax stains on my jacket and handbag proudly, at least until I iron them out or pick it off. I speak English and French, and dream in both, I suppose based on which one my brain is tuned in to when I go to bed. On Wednesday I was dreaming in French, last night English, however both were very strange. [hr] ~*~*~*~ "And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than...

Re:

Why would a tutor need to be spoonfed? We have the answers already (well at least the answers to your tutorial questions/exams/etc). If not on a noticeboard somewhere, or online, then ask the department secretary. [hr] ~*~*~*~ "And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful...

Re:

It's not just staff that get them for a whole year - PhD students do as well. And taught masters have then up to 30 September of the year after they started. PhDs and staff in particular need very specific books for lengthy periods of time. Where undergrads have a certain breadth in their essay topi...

Absolutely fantastic! I had a great time. This was much better than last year's event, in my opinion. Would have liked better music in the breaks, but that's a minor detail. :) There were more people this time and just a generally better atmosphere. Does anyone know what the band was called? I check...

Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden - I just read it this year and found it to be both a interesting and well written. There have been entirely too many instances when an author mucks up a perfectly good subject with crap writing, but this isn't one of them. :) [hr] ~*~*~*~ "And the day came when t...

We did clean up everyone else's rubbish last time - Rilla bagged it before she left, and then sunflower and I went down to Castle Sands the morning after.
