I am planning on doing a round-trip through Scotland after the exams for a week or so.

Does anyone know a cheap place to hire a car for a week? What are typical prices/conditions?

My theory: The reason why gumboots became fashionable is that they (if dark green) are associated with upper-class outdoor activities like hunting/riding/etc. Colorful gumboots are a later development.
