Re:

Yes, but when maidens is determined, not by your position in each round, but by how good your speech was irrespective of others in the room, looking at speaker points for the tournament as a whole is a good indicator that we have lots of good new speakers. Irrespecitve of how many came.

This was a great showing by St Andrews - and especially well done to all the ams who did a great job!
Looks like Maidens is going to be a cut-throat competition, and hope for Bogwall is growing!

Re:

Zoe and Frank are the development team. Considering the fact that they've been debating for a lot less time than any of the other teams and haven't spoken at an IV together (I think, correct me if I'm wrong) they managed to hold their own.

Re:

If Tom arranges a good debate then the two seconds of inconvenience caused by having to suspend the standing orders is not a big deal. in fact, with the amount of crazy tradition that has to go on at this debate, one extra point of order wil hardly make any difference at all.

Re:

I made a speech as soon as I could catch Rachael's eye saying how insulting the comment was, and members of the board spoke to the speaker afterwards telling him we all expected an apology to be given. I don't think any of us expected the speaker's speech to be as insulting when he started and it wa...

I think the student-alumni competition is a great idea. And I'm sure there would be room in the calender for it.

Re:

I'm still convinced the worst round was the one about tax breaks. Its the worst speech I've given in well over a year. It was definately summed up well by the judge who said (having just given us the 1st)
'I really didn't want to have to give out points in that round, not even speaker points'

Toughest set of trials I've seen or been in since I've been here. Says something for the standard of people here. I was very happy to see how well people did, only sad that we have more teams who are good enough to go than spaces.

IV Friday 16th February

If you want to help out at the IV please just post on here. Its running from 9-late, and I need judges, dummy teams, time keepers and general helpers. Also, if people are happy to have a couple of debaters sleeping on their floor for a night or two it would be much appreciated. Let me know! --Connie
