Re: taxi to Edinburgh aiport

Diesel from St Andrews to the airport costs 16 pounds RETURN at the most, so petrol would be even cheaper. With you saying you're going in Thursday AND Friday, it sounds to me like you're running a taxi service. An illegal taxi service, BTW, if you don't have the correct insurance or hackney license...

Re: Loan help please!!

No, contact Julie Campbell, as she is the person in charge of US federal loans for St Andrews students: usloan@st-andrews.ac.uk. Be aware though, e-mail replies are a long time coming. Possibly best to ring or get further information from the site below. I guess that you haven't seen this page, but ...

Re: Class Experience

FYI, poster above (Guest 2?), there is no marking curve in St Andrews. Marks are each given on their own merit and are not compared to or altered by the achievement of any other student.

Re: A thread by any other name...

bump on this - anyone know where Prophet Ten/novium etc are these days? If novium is who I think I remember novium is, we were at a wedding together in April, at the same table - and novium doesn't live in the UK any longer. Though it looks like novium's last post on the Sinner was actually in July...

Re: good value hairdresser?

Keep your eye open for salons looking for hair models. Sophie Butler often does this, either for free, or a small amount (say, 5 quid for men, 10 for women), depending on the level of experience of the person cutting your hair. Any good salon will have someone supervising a trainee, and will tell yo...

Re: FS: Divan bed and mattress 25 pounds

Reduced price, as said, would consider negotiating. Base and mattress for 25 - great price!

FS: Divan bed and mattress 20 quid

Hiya, we've recently upgraded our bed, moved our old one into our spare room, and thus our spare bed needs to go! It's in a very good state - basically used less than 3 weeks last year. When I say it's a small double, a standard double is 4' 6", this bed is around 4', maybe a tiny bit wider. It...

Re: Available: Spanish Classes

Like I said, I think it's an excellent idea as a job. However, I have experienced, PhD candidate friends who offer language tuition and it is significantly less than what you originally cited (and have now removed from your post?). This was offered to be helpful. Also, I took the evening language cl...

Re: Available: Spanish Classes

It's a good idea, and I know the odd person who wants to improve his/her Spanish, but I think you may have a hard time finding students at this price, when they can get an entire semester of evening classes (15 hours in total) from the university for 90 pounds: http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/media/seme...

Re: Family accomodation wanted-21/12/10

At such short notice, mid-year? I doubt it. They'd be better off looking somewhere outside of the town, where you can get great cottages for much, much less.

Re: Family accomodation wanted-21/12/10

I am sorry to tell you that there is absolutely no way at all that you will be able to find a 2-bedroom flat IN St Andrews for that. In fact, you are unlikely to find somewhere for less than 640, and that is being hopeful. I saw a place outside of town advertised, and will look for the number to sen...

Re: Gowns and Stuff..

Do we HAVE to wear gowns and hoods at graduation, or will a nice suit do? Really think the 50 quid are already a rip-off.. another 37 for the gown and that silliness cost way more than flights to get there. I imagine if you just wore one or the other, lacking the gown & hood wouldn't be cool, a...

Re: 18 month contracts for internet? wtf?

Ha! You can get a 12-month broadband and phone contract from O2 for either 17 pounds a month or 22, depending on if you want inclusive international calls as well (these prices are if you're an O2 customer already, it's a bit more if you're not, but still good value IMO). My recommendation is to nev...

Re: Housing (Transfer)

Sadly, I think you'll find it hard to transfer into Dean's Court, everyone wants to live there because it's central. It's likely to be months before there'll be a space available. Have you considered Gannochy? It's also cheaper than DRA, but self-catering. There isn't much advice to give you, becaus...
