Re:

Quoting David Bean from 20:50, 7th Jan 2008 Ben: that's what you told me the policy said, anyway, and I'm damned if I could figure it out any better from the paper! :P Yeah, well... ;) Of course, you could try reading it again. If you're bored enough to post on here, you must be bored enough for an...

Re:

Quoting David Bean from 00:05, 7th Jan 2008 I think it's a pity Ben Reilly abstains from this discussion, too, because I always thought he had the right idea about this; I think the plan he proposed in our year together as sabbs was basically a good one, but (depending how sympathetic a view you wa...

Re:

Quoting Lid from 23:37, 3rd Jan 2008 Well then it's impressive how these myths perpetuate - it was something I was told in my first SRC member training by the then head of HR / DoR, I forget which. It wasn't me. I could have told you that 1994 EA says: "appointment to major union offices should be ...

Quoting Dralex from 00:27, 20th Sep 2007
I'm posting on a Blackberry Curve in my flat - St Andrews.

What's it like? My work doesn't support Blackberries, but does SE machines so I didn't even look at it seriously.

Re:

Why should they intervene now though? In what way is it a swindle? If people don't want to pay, then don't. I'm certainly not.

Re:

Very different cases. When your employer took over a certain chain of shops (I take it this is the chain that had a branch on South Street?) they would have had what would be legally defined a monopoly in an economically significant retail sector. The fact that nobody else wanted to buy the shops is...

Re:

As a point of interest, can you identify some of these rulings please?

I've always found o2 to be OK, but the fact that their website doesn't work properly in Safari is highly annoying.

I would assume that's going to be fixed.

Re:

Quoting David Bean from 00:47, 18th Sep 2007 I think their decision to award an exclusive contract at all was, frankly, a disgrace - in fact I'm surprised the Office of Fair Trading is letting them get away with it, considering how draconian they can be in other, far less deserving cases. [hr] Psal...

Re:

From this year, if you buy Life Membership, you get a card that is based on the one in use in the late 1940s. It's rather nice. I can't make any promises for the actions of other or future sabbaticals, but you should also receive an annual report from the SA on what's been going on with societies, e...

The extra money from students coming from England will not be used for Scottish Universities. It will go into a pot to subsidise Scottish students going to English universities.

Re:

My personal preference would be 'blogs (complete with RSS feeds) for all sabbaticals and officers. Let's see what Tom comes up with next year, I have lots of faith in his ability to identify and implement some good new ways of communicating. I was trying to persuade a couple of people from the Princ...

Re:

Quoting Laura from 17:08, 11th May 2006 Ben, by your own admission you don't have a way of finding the collective view. If your going to blame it on the system, then as always, I am exasperated. Not quite blame it on the system. How to generate a collective view from a number of groups is being loo...

Re:

Foo, sorry if I didn't get this across properly, but what I was trying to say was that if you have questions you want answered about the email, the best way to get that done is at SRC tonight. You could also try emailing Alex, but at SRC is the only way you are guaranteed a response.

Re:

Quoting Dave the Explosive Newt from 17:02, 11th May 2006 Piffle, Ben. I'd say that judging from this thread there is a reasonable concern that a) That email was unecessarily heavy handed in tone and may have been inaccurate to the point of scaremongering b) that it was vague about what and what di...

Re:

Quoting Dave the Explosive Newt from 17:05, 11th May 2006 Does this mean that grievances raised should be ignored out of hand? Re:

Quoting Laura from 17:02, 11th May 2006 I also think if something arises on a board like this whether it be six people saying it or sixty it is worth being brought forward for debate at SRC. By asking a representative to mention a problem you find with something you are not necessarily asking them ...
