Clearly private results are better. But then, if you only enter thse students who are going to do well into exams it's kinda hard not too. Crucially, the funding bodies (ESRC, NERC etc) state that a 2:1 is required to secure their funding. Thus, as long as you achieve that, and can prove your abiltiy you'll have no problem....
