Re: Master's degree at St. Andrews, and then... porn?

Lukey2 wrote:This isn't exactly a fantastic job market for Anthropologists. Are we really so sure it was a choice?

Oh, so that's what this thread was missing - a conspiracy theory. Glad we sorted that out.

Re: Eurobop?

Is it only me that sees it an illogical move to have a Eurovision bop three weeks before Eurovision? It's a shame Lëtzebuerg won't be participating, but I'll have to cheer Sweden on in the semis, then sit there waiting for the douze points from Malta for the UK in the final. Maybe if we awarded a GC...

Re: Mornington Crescent, Round 2

Now this move, of course, relies on Metropolitan being high, but the Plough and Dagger manouver (first seen c. 1971) seems the best way to counteract David Bean's move, and needless to say, it takes me directly to Harrow-on-the-Hill . I know this is quite an aggressive move, and could leave me open ...

Re: The KK - Is this the end for our intrepid duo (and some)??!

Where is the SRC declaration regarding the Royal and Ancient by the way? Best of luck with that. The most vocal supporters of the R&A thus far have been the women's golf clubs! Yet more complication. Jono, I think you mean the Royal and Ancient, not the R&A. The Royal and Ancient (Golf Club...

Re: The KK - Is this the end for our intrepid duo (and some)??!

It's like saying "I disagree with the the policies imposed by the Biology department's laboratories, so let's boycott the Graduation dinner" You're really not getting this, are you, Thackary? It's not the same as saying that, because those don't contain any of the same words. It's only a ...

Lid - I was under the impression that once membership has been resigned, all services are off-limits, including the bar and Bop. I remember there being some clause about "exclusive facilities" which allowed a certain non-member access to the DDR game, but only if accompanied by a member o...

Re: The KK - Is this the end for our intrepid duo (and some)??!

Some education act or other (1973?). I think you go to the general office, and say that you wish to resign your membership of the Students' Association. Education Act 1994. You resign your membership, in writing to the President of the Association. Should you subsequently wish to rejoin for the che...

Re: The KK - Is this the end for our intrepid duo (and some)??!

The SRC [...] have withdrawn our participation from the KK's procession committee. Wasn't it the SSC that the Procession Committee carve-up was made? If so, there's no power or provision to do so. If not, what more have you done than cut off your nose to spite your face. Still, as Lyndon B Johnson ...

Re: The KK - Is this the end for our intrepid duo (and some)??!

I don't believe that this distancing should involve denying this private members' group the right to rent out university property at commercial rates. Would you deny a private members' group that only allowed white people to be members the right to rent out university property at commercial rates? ...

Re: Free statistical software package

R is incredibly dry, but can be picked up. My entire knowledge of R comes from MT1008, and I only turned up to that class to pick up the handbook at the start of the course- I don't think anyone got less than a 15.

Re: The Pope and Condoms

I'm kind of astonished by your post. In sub-Saharan Africa the primary transmission route is heterosexual and in places, the probability of infection is near 1. But I'm not going to say anymore, for I fear the rage may cause me to explode. Apologies - I didn't have time to follow the link the first...

Re: The Pope and Condoms

The Pope "weighs in" on the subject of condoms, because it isn't purely a health issue but also one of morals. However it's been shown by the spread of HIV in the developing world that this utopia of morality isn't practised. Whatever the Pope's views, and yes, he'd probably love it for a...

Re: It just goes to show you can't be too careful!

Oh get with the times, IYLISMWDYGLT was only at the top of its game when they were leaking the BBC complaints logs, before Nelson implemented the blahblahblah filter. You have to go back at least 4 months for the gold.

Re: The most British word

I have a few Swedish friends, and whenever they want to put on a British accent, or emphasise something's Britishness, they will add 'terribly' or 'marvellous'.

Re: Union Elections

Well, it's nominations flurry time, and we've got a drink, a lion and a singer-songwriter (I assume :P) nominated. What's most disturbing though is that one sabbatical and six officers look set to be elected unopposed (or should I say symbolically opposed). Further, one senate rep looks set to be el...

Re: Union Elections

Oh so *that's* why David isn't running Rory McLion this year... I'm amazed, it's (for once, and probably only co-incidental with a big hack migration southwards (graduation as the newbies like to call it)) a genuinely interesting election.
