Re: Formal Dress Forum

By convention, yes, the bottom button of a waistcoat is left undone - allegedly thanks to the corpulence of Edward VII (48 inch waist at coronation), who either: forget to do it up one day and was copied, was so fat it wouldn't do up, or undid it to allow him to still look good while riding a horse ...

Re: Garage

I found Bassaguard to be excellent - prompt, friendly, relatively good value, and seemingly honest (they advised that something I had though needed doing didn't actually need fixing, saving me £150+)...

Forgive me, I was basing mine on the circumscription of the globe from the Seal of the Dean of the Faculty from 1457.

Perhaps I should spend less time looking up the heraldry, and more time studying.

Re: John Smith MA (Hons) etc

I believe the full style is: John Smith MA (Hons) (Universitatis Sancti Andrae in Scotia) (Lots of Maces and Papal Bulls) (Yes Prince William went there) (No I didn't meet him) (No, its not Edinburgh) (Yes I got rejected from Oxbridge) (But we're 3rd in the rankings now so please be quiet) (Yes my b...

Re: University searching for a new Deputy Principal

I'm sure some of us here have done world class scientific research, albeit mostly in the fields of "The various textile properties of Ede & Ravenscroft products" and "The metabolisation of alcohol by the undergraduate and it's effects on the consumption of battered pizza" or ...

Re: Former rector dies

A great loss to the worlds of wit and wisdom. I wonder if he despaired of being perpetually labelled 'grandson of Sigmund, brother of Lucien' There is the story of when he and Winston S. Churchill went on a trip to China. Churchill got the better room, and this was the first (and probably only time...

Re: The KK - Is this the end for our intrepid duo (and some)??!

I would be most interested to find out what our Principal's stance on Fraternities, Sororities, and specifically Final Clubs at Harvard was. "Male final clubs have long been a point of controversy at Harvard because of their implicit elitism. They do not allow women as members ... have historic...

Re: The KK - Is this the end for our intrepid duo (and some)??!

Yawn. I'm not entirely sure what will be achieved by this; the KK wasn't a recognised society by the University anyway, given that it's no affiliated. Like the CU. I wonder if they will be next in the firing line? One can only hope. Also, she's not that keen on the Lumsden club either, I think the w...

It's probably worth mentioning that there is Ballroom Dancing society, who meet most Thursdays I believe. I daresay you could find someone of a like mind there.

Re: St Andrews on Facebook?

Waiting on who to provide said application? There's nothing to stop you making it yourself. It's not as if there is the "Facebook Application" Sab sitting around in the Union cackling to themselves as they make you wait for a shield to put on your profile. If you want it that much, make it...
