'Legal high' banned in UK

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8427439.stm

Yup, a BBC news link commentary thread. Rare stuff.

What do people think of the banning of legal highs? Misguided state nannyism or justified prohibition of dangerous substances?

Re: Christmas #1

I dislike the focus on the guy or 'man and his wife' as the one(s) who led this campaign to glory. I've seen the clueless muppet interviewed on TV and I think it detracts from the 'masses stand up against shitty mass produced pop shite' spirit of the whole thing.

Re: Google Whacks

The fact that a word wasn't in the dictionary was your point? So you intended to post a non-google whack but presented it as a googlewhack? I'm confused. There's not much irony in posting two non-googlewhacks in a Googlewhack thread ('ludicism' doesn't seem to be in any dictionaries either). Maybe y...

There was no agreement with what I had posted only a failure to quote, recognise or quote. I have a fragile ego and it's bad manners for fuck's sake.

Re: And did those feet, in Ancient times?

If correlation doesn't equal cause, completely arbitrary correlation certainly doesn't. Same old problem as the 'bible code', I'm afraid. It's not the results, but the method that's total, total complete and utter bullshit. and Apophenia, baby. see: It's another absurd case of the human mind lookin...

Re: And did those feet, in Ancient times?

Red, if the truth was all spelled out for us, we wouldn't need to look further. But we don't get direct information in the Bible. The whole point is that you need to tread the pathway and live it. One day, perhaps many years later you see some sign and only then, unlock a pocket of meaning. Given t...

They'd need to employ someone to (heavily) edit your writing for spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Re: Freshmen 2009

It's so incredibly easy to criticise, complain and bawwwwwww because you don't like what's being put on. I doubt there's ever been a freshers week that I could say met my every hope and expectation but it was still a helluva lot of fun. Just think for one second about how these things are thought ab...

Re: Is higher education is screwed?

Aren't all of these just the same old things that have always been regurgitated by desperate journalists as shocking 'new's? I know I've seen all four in various forms before, year after year.

Boris is just innately bumbling, clumsy and inept. It's why we love him/laugh at him, because try as he might to be taken seriously he's just pure comedy.

Re: Artificial Sperm and Transhumanism

One can argue there's no such thing as 'natural'. Human ingenuity, creativity, strive for survival, etc, can all be argued as aspects of human nature and thus creating nuclear powered knees or intravenous nano-medibots is nothing more than our natural right (whether or not you buy the concept of nat...

Re: Mornington Crescent, Round 2

Do you know I rather think it's time we finished our present game! I do hate the summer Sinner slump.

I'll be so bold as to follow on from Duggeh's very 'Rushton-esque' move and suggest Bayswater. Good luck with that one ^.^

Re: Food, drink & other things in the library

Essays are done so I have no need to use the library since I revise at home. However, the biggest complaint I had when I was using it were those who would catch-up with friends loudly and obnoxiously without even lowering their voice or whisper. When I was meeting a friend in a practically empty St ...

Spacebat

http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/8946/1237507300828.jpg Bereft of his ability to fly and with nowhere to go, a courageous bat climbed aboard our Discovery with stars in his weak little eyes. The launch commenced, and Spacebat trembled as his little mammalian body was gently pushed skyward. For the ...
