What do people think of the banning of legal highs? Misguided state nannyism or justified prohibition of dangerous substances?

I dislike the focus on the guy or 'man and his wife' as the one(s) who led this campaign to glory. I've seen the clueless muppet interviewed on TV and I think it detracts from the 'masses stand up against shitty mass produced pop shite' spirit of the whole thing.
