Modern Armenian Classes Wanted

Hello, I am a PhD student at St. Andrews, researching late antique Iran, and as part of my studies, I am learning to read Classical Armenian. Anyway, I am enjoying Classical Armenian very much, and so would quite like to have a go at learning modern Armenian (mainly for conversation, at first at lea...

Historical Wargames

I am getting back into historical wargames after a long hiatus (on an earlier thread, I considered getting back into WFB, but decided to put my money into historical games as the soldiers are much, much cheaper). I am particularly interested in late mediaeval warfare , specifically concerning 15th c...

Re: Warhammer Fantasy anyone?

I am thinking about getting back into Warhammer Fantasy in September/October. I played obsessively when I was a young teenager, then stopped when I was 16, as I wanted to pretend to be cool. Anyway, I have come to terms with my geekyness in the intervening seven and a half years or so... If I were t...

Re: Summer in St Andrews

I've spent the last 2 summers in St. Andrews. Being here over the summer is wonderful. Asthere were only a few of my friends around, I went out to meet new people, and made many new firm friends who I would never have met otherwise. The nightlife was wonderful - people were having house parties near...

Re: 21st birthday present

Tastefull lingerie has always gone down well with my girlfried for birthdays, Valentines and Christmasses, or just one-off presents. And it is something to share, I suppose. It can be very difficult to buy it for her without her around though, and some men I know have got into all sorts of trouble f...

Re: Dark Heresy (40k RPG)

How is Dark Heresy? I have got into D&D over the last couple of years, and am keen to try something new. I quite enjoyed Inquisitor when it came out, but, from what the internet tells me, Dark Heresy is very different. I am just put off a bit by how expensive the books appear. Anyway, I'd be cur...

Re: Getting from St Andrews to Glasgow Prestwick

Ordinarily it isn't too hard, it just takes a long time. Get a bus to Glasgow Bus Station, and there are buses from the bus station to the air port. Last time I did it (in the spring of 2007) it was around £15 round trip, which isn't too bad, but it did take around 3 and a half hours. I'm not sure h...

"I'd have to say I don't entirely agree here. Having grown up in Doncaster, there's not much of the town I remember growing up in, major regeneration schemes have been financed, the station / Frenchgate area has been totally transformed, and with the new airport, there's seemingly a reason to go the...

Re:

I read this morning, I have to say it really ticked me off. I had a lovely few days in Sheffield recently - when I was there as a kid in the late 80s and 90s it was quite grimy, but now it really is quite swish and prosperous. In any region there are going to be depressed areas and prosperous areas....

Re:

Well, the South Ossetians mostly have Russian citizenship (which is perhaps a legally tenuous state of affairs, but there we are), and there were a fair few Russian 'peace keepers' hanging around - some of which got killed. In short, the Georgians might have been acting 'legally' when they sent in t...

Re:

I've brought a huge amount of my 'tastes of home' with me here - my freezer is full of Westmorland sausages and Cartmel sticky pudding, and my garage is stacked high with tins of Thwaites Bitter.

I never thought I'd crave something so simple as a big sausage and a tin of bitter.

Re:

The NHS practice in St. Andrews will only see you if you are over 60 (which is a bit unfair considering the huge student population). If you have an EHIC card you can easily get dental care on the continent. I have been using French dentists for a while now, and it is much cheaper and easier than go...

Re:

I had to have a tooth taken out recently. I got it done at Kirkaldy Dental Access Centre, which was fine, though getting there was a hassle. I really had to chivy them to get them to make my second and third appointments though; they were really rubbish at returning my calls. The NHS dentist in St. ...

Re:

I'm doing mediaeval history, but I suppose that the process is the same. I just emailed the academic who I wanted to supervise my dissertation, we met, talked about it for a while, and we agreed he would supervise me. I just e-mailed my supervisor straight out, and everything was fine (though as soo...

If you go to the health centre/hospital, they'll give you a prescription, so that Boots will give it you for free.

I am not suggesting he support James, just whether he believed the punishment to be proportional to the offence.

Re:

I don't expect Phil Pass to endorse James, I was just wondering whether he thought that it was right for him to be barred, and as he had considered commenting on the thread relating to that, I just wondered what he thought.
