Well done you for breaking it off! It often takes time, and doing things which may seem stupid afterwards, but not at the time, to see what has always been obvious to others. It sounds like you went through a really tough time, but are a stronger person because of it. well done

Dont believe all you read on Wikipedia! The trews were first worn by the english. I believe there is a similar gaelic word, most likely adopted by the englishmen who wore them to make them more authentic. The Scottish nobility started wearing them soon after their invention though.

also, I think the now "usual" kilt, as opposed the the plaid which goes round the shoulder was used for armies as it didnt slow them down as much. Wet kilts are very heavy! But Im not sure about this.

To be fair, trews are an english invention. I assume you are english? If not. maybe you should check up on scottish cultural history. Also, trews look ridiculously stupid, which is as good a reason as any to not wear them. Those people smiling at you? Are actually laughing.
