Re: Do you dream in colour?

I am likewise not sure if redcelt is being a bit of a kill-joy and insisting that since dreams aren't real, they can't happen in colour, or if he really means that he dreams of abstract casting-shadows-in-Plato's-cave concepts. I dream in colour, and my dreams are mostly visual, in that my abiding i...

Re: Gay AND Catholic?

You and others on The Sinner may be interested to know that I, like Milo Yiannopoulos, am one of those 'gay' Catholics. Although I do not adopt the 'gay' or 'homosexual' identities. It is only very recently that I've made sense of what same-sex attraction means to me and so have become more open ab...

Women in the KK

What's this I hear about the KK splitting apart and one part admitting women now? Can anyone confirm/deny/speculate wildly any of this?

Re: The burning of effigies...

No, not at all. I see myself as counter-cultural or perhaps even anti-establishment. The establishment is liberal now, that was my point. It's the underlying joke in Corey Robin's book: the revolution is over; it has achieved its aim. Society and culture has been changed unrecognisably from what ca...

Re: The burning of effigies...

I'm rather puzzled that this took as long as it did to get onto the Sinner. I'm disgusted but I can't say I'm surprised. I am, however, puzzled as to why on earth they did it. I don't mean the "don't you think this might make people very very offended and make Tories look even more like the Nas...

Re: Kate Kennedy Club Twitter?

I believe that we should attack the lower classes, first with bombs and rockets, destroying their homes, and then, when they run helpless into the streets, mowing them down with machine-gun fire. And then, of course, releasing the vultures.

Re: Photography Society

At the end of Fresher's week will the the Societies Fair, and all the societies, including the photographic society, will have a stall. All you need to do is go along, find them, and put your name down. They'll be able to tell you about the level of experience people in the club have, but from exper...

Re: London riots

And it happened in places other than London... which is the capital of England (where the riots took place) not the UK. I'm making that point, because you repeatedly refer to Britain, when the rioting was restricted solely to England. Wrong and wrong. England doesn't have a capital, and London is t...

Re: London riots

I couldn't be arsed to write an essay... OK, I have to ask... how much of what you wrote do you actually believe to be true? The troll label has (in the past) been all-too readily applied to people with differing views on this forum, so I'm loathe to make any assumptions. But seriously, are you bei...

Re: stationary and information

I always went to Bess, the Union shop, to get all of my stationary. It wasn't expensive, and the profit that Bess made went back into student life, rather than to a huge corporation's shareholders.

London riots

Normally this is the sort of thing to kick off with a link to a news story, but if you haven't heard about the rioting by now you're probably dead. Or American. What do sinners think of it all? I think that, at this point, four nights (and days) into this, it feels like the government have no contro...

Re: Leuchars becoming Army Barracks?

If the Army is going to station 5000 troops at Leuchars, then they will build barrack accommodation for 5000 troops, and accommodation for the families of those troops. There shouldn't be any impact on housing in St Andrews... such impact as there might be is more likely to be caused by secondary ef...

Re: Men's Hair Cut (where in town?)

There's a place on South Street just next to/behind the cheese shop. Johns, I think its called. I've been there several times and have always been satisfied with it. And its 7 pounds for students, if memory serves-certainly a reasonable rate!

Anon. wrote:What does "fwat" actually mean? Is it an abbreviation, or something onomatopœic?

I formed the impression that it was the sound made by the collision between redcelt's delusions and ignorance.

Alternatives to Nubile

I suppose that the advice board is the right place for this (almost) entirely frivolous query. I've had a thought rolling around my head for a little while now; namely, that I can't think of a male equivalent of the adjective "nubile". I'm not looking for a male synonym for marriageable, b...

Re: Slutwalk

Very simply, I'm saying that the fight would best be served from a different perspective. That may be, I didn't see any humanists getting arrested in Moscow yesterday in the cause of gay rights. There were no humanists marching in Britain in the early part of the last century for women's suffrage. ...

Re: The Muslim Immigration Debate

For my own arguments, I have purposely avoided specifics such as what "British" or "Western" culture, ethics or politics entails. The problem is that, if you ask ten British citizens what "Britishness" entails, you will get ten different answers. Even if you ask ten Br...

Re: Slutwalk

Saying that those type of feminists aren't the real type of feminist is to use the No True Scot defence. Nobody said they weren't the 'real' feminists. But you yourself did try to say that they're doing it wrong (a bit rich for someone who identifies as an anti-feminist). I note you don't identify ...
