Re: Honorary Life Memberships

Does having an HLM mean you don't have to be signed in as a guest if you come back to visit? Are people given cards or is there some master list in a drawer somewhere?

Re: Degree Classifications

So the 'Eligible for the award of ...' bit is definitely what you're going to get? Because I'm borderline too and I don't want to celebrate out of paranoia that they're going to turn round and change their mind!

Re: worst moments

Probably the test I got back in second year with a five scrawled over the original four and a comment along the lines of 'And that's being generous - appalling effort'. Or the "panic attack" (apparently - I thought they were episodes rather than lifestyles) I gave myself throughout the ent...

Re: Food, drink & other things in the library

No comments on food (yet) but I was not happy to see the sign announcing that Butts Wynd is out of action for the rest of the year. So to use a computer my options are to queue in the library, go to Swallowgate until 5pm/students get kicked out for staff training, trail round town seeing if there's ...

Re: The Sinner's Guide - We Need You!

I'll have a look after exams, but I think I've added info for everything I know about already.

Re: Functionality Poll.

Control + B = 'Organize favourites' Control + I = 'Favourites' Shift + Alt + B = bold tags (but not round the word I've highlighted, they appear randomly in the middle of the word or occasionally at the end) I've never actually tried using keyboard shortcuts on other boards; I always assumed they di...

Re: The Printers in the library

I tried doing a lot of printing last week for the first time, and I finally understand why the things are so hated. Even when I moved to Butts Wynd, where hardly anyone was doing any printing, it took 15 minutes or so to print - and it was the same whether I printed a page at a time or a whole docum...

Re: On the Rocks

I didn't have time to see everything I wanted to either; I imagine many people were in the same boat. But when people are browsing the festival guide and deciding what to prioritise, they're probably more likely to pick something they recognise as familiar (Hamlet, History Boys) than a Plato-based-I...

Re: On the Rocks

I agree numbers for some shows were disappointing; Noumena, for example, was fantastic, but the turnout wasn't. Possibly part of the problem is that it wasn't very clear from the festival guide what you were buying a ticket for. I enjoyed Bear With Me, but I had no clue what to expect from it. 'In P...

Re: Jerry Springer

I thought the singing, acting, dancing and band were very polished. The band was quite loud though, and articulation could have been better in places - too often I felt like the lyrics would be funny if only I could discern what they were. That might have contributed to my impression that the script...

Re: Recycling carrier bags...

Morrisons used to have a recycling bin for them in their entrance, but I don't know if that's still there (I also heard that supermarkets will take bags but then just dump them because they don't actually have anywhere to recycle them ... or something). How about using them as binbags? Not so practi...

Re: BC vs BCE

So is this person actually a creationsist or do they just 'have links with a Creationist group'? That sounds far more sinister. I'm curious about who you're talking about now! I use BCE/BC. I know that BC/AD just reflects our religious heritage and now makes no claims on a person's beliefs when they...

Re: 60+ students occupy uni building in protest

If funding could be found, I think a scholarship for an international student whose life has been disrupted by conflict would be fantastic. I can't, however, sign a petition demanding the university set up ten scholarships for students from Palestine. It's a completely unrealistic demand. The univer...
