Re: Library Redevelopment

We're getting together a coherant picture of what has happened. Put simply - the university had committed to a £46m project, and progressed significantly through the design and planning stages. This project would create study space per student on par with University of Oxford, create integrated and ...

Re: Kevin Dunion - Who?

I seem to recall the Principal's speech at Kevin Dunion's Installation having something in it about her querying whether the role of a rector was necessary any more, or something like that. As I undertand it, however, it's mighty difficult to get rid of the position as it stands due to some educati...

Re: The KK - Is this the end for our intrepid duo (and some)??!

Similarly to Georgina, if someone wanted advice about an event or technical stuff or health and safety or whatever, and they were unaffiliated - I do not see how I, or anyone, could refuse them that next year, or this year, or whenever. Just because they may belong to an 'unrecognised' group does n...

Re: The KK - Is this the end for our intrepid duo (and some)??!

Referring to other points raised: The Students' Representative Council is the only body officially allowed to represent the students of the University. This, combined with the Students' Union, forms the Students' Association (from 1972 if memory serves). Hennessy, if you would like to opt out of me...

Re: The KK - Is this the end for our intrepid duo (and some)??!

"Fuck the University's 'recognition' - as if that ever lent itself to efficient operation. Her estrogen fuelled tirade is case and point why the KK is male exclusive." - Taken from the facebook group "Dr Richardson is wrong about the KK" This type of prejudice is perhaps one of t...

Re: The KK - Is this the end for our intrepid duo (and some)??!

You don't expect a sinner thread to remain on point, do you? A bunch of people have posted their opinions on some stuff, it's not like it's a coherent argument or anything. Agree on the Georgina support. I had coffee with her once and it was generally ace. Hehe that makes it sound as if that was th...

Re: The KK - Is this the end for our intrepid duo (and some)??!

Sorry, Georgina. By choosing to set aside your four years of vocal opposition to the KK in order to allow the Rectorial Drag to happen without making too big a fuss, you are clearly a horrible hypocrite and your opinion is to be henceforth disregarded on all matters! I agree. Really? Really? If you...

Would you deny a private members' group that only allowed white people to be members the right to rent out university property at commercial rates?

Re: The KK - Is this the end for our intrepid duo (and some)??!

I must say, I am honestly trying to stay neutral in this debate. I think it’s a healthy one. However, I do find quite a bit of ironic hypocrisy in the way Georgina Rannard has been acting and behaving. She has come out in huge support of our Principal, however, during the Rectorial Drag, she was sc...

Re: The KK - Is this the end for our intrepid duo (and some)??!

I'm pretty sure Dr Richardson's email mentioned things about being excluded by birth etc, so it would appear that this is a class argument. Call a spade a spade - everyone knows it is, more so than any issue of gender. I think she was referring to women being born women, and therefore being exclude...

Re: The KK - Is this the end for our intrepid duo (and some)??!

Lumsden, FS:09, LGBT, As You Like It, Starfields - examples off the top of my head of other societies or student groups that have used University property recently. Psychology students use halls of residence to conduct some research, the pro-life society used one of the Schools in the quad for a ta...

Re: The KK - Is this the end for our intrepid duo (and some)??!

I'd also like to add that the KK itself would appear to have been treated shockingly in this matter so far, having been led to believe for years by the Lang administration that its composition and activities were perfectly compatible with the university's values only to be told one day that the pos...

Re: The KK - Is this the end for our intrepid duo (and some)??!

I think the point that the University is making is that they are withdrawing University support for the KK. This is not to say that they believe the KK should stop existing, or that the University is on a mission to remove all exclusive groups, regardless of their connection with the university. Thi...

Re: The KK - Is this the end for our intrepid duo (and some)??!

Also hasn't she already had a go at the R&A? They give honourary membership to the Principal usually but couldn't in this case so she refused an invite the the woman's equivalent. Correct me if I'm wrong here this is second-hand information. Louise has said very little about the R&A, apart ...

Re: Georgina Rannard for Director of Representation

Thanks Jono, that's an interesting point of view. I disagree with the idea that the DoR canvasses student opinion at just one point during the whole year, which is what you appear to be suggesting. In my opinion, representing students means regularly and consistently consulting with the student body...

Georgina Rannard for Director of Representation

Hello! I'm running for Director of Representation! I pretty much want to use this for people to ask any questions, rather than extensively try to promote myself. Quickly about me - I'm a fourth year history student, from Liverpool. I'm the Rector's Assessor to Kevin Dunion, so I have a lot of experi...

Re: Rectorial drag - today!

We bought 300 torches for the torchlit procession, but as you rightly said, a lot more than that turned up. I hope everyone everyone enjoyed the evening, and apologies if you didn't get a torch!! At least you were spared being covered in wax!
