Re: Former rector dies

I just heard the news now and feel genuinely sad to hear of his passing - he was rather a quirky character.....definitely a sad day.

Re: Sore lips

I tend to get very dry lips in winter....I smear vaseline on them. Try putting some on before you go to bed - it's less likely to wear off unless you eat in your sleep so you should end up with lovely smooth lips in the morning!

Re: Do I need a first?

I disagree with the last poster - you do not neccessarily need a first to get you to the top of the pile. Although this depends entirely on what you want to do. It may well be true for academia but not neccessarily for the working world. I have now worked in both the private and public sectors and w...

Re: Emirates Airline

I've flown with Gulf Air too and had fab experiences. Also flown with Lufthansa a few times and always had good quality service. Swiss Air on the other hand....well the best bit was the chocolate we got when we finally landed!

Re: Public Speaking

Like someone else has mentioned - I found there really is no secret to being able to do a good presentation and definitely no running-down-the-street-naked-Eureka moment! However, if you want to learn some basic tips on presentations, one of my colleagues is currently reading a book called "Bri...

Re: New Academic Year, New Sinner

Despite Oli having labelled me as resistant to change last night because I don't like the new fb layout, :P I have to say that I DO like the new sinner. It'll take a bit of time to get used to but I like how slick it is......well done!! :)

The Beijing Olympics included representations of things across China...plus the Olympic football in 2012 is being hosted in Glasgow, not London.....so not totally the London Olympics.

Re:

The 8 minute slot looked like it was a representation of London rather than Britain....red buses, tube maps etc.....would have been nice if other parts of Britain were represented given that it's not just the Londoners who are paying for it. However, it wasn't a bad slot.....it was a nice contrast t...

J What kind of job/profession are you aiming for? There's no point in applying to loads of grad schemes without being clear about whether or not you're interested in that area. And to repeat what someone else has said - if you have resorted to threatening people and stealing then please go and seek ...

Re:

I agree with box_of_delights' suggestion. I bought a Fuji FinePix f40fd and it's been an absolute joy to have! The picture quality is brilliant even in low light. You can use the automatic settings or opt to set manually instead. The video quality is good too and it picks up sound quite clearly. I h...

Re:

I wore black trousers, blouse untucked, and heels....I didn't trip over on stage (Thank the Lord...) But I did see a ceremony where a guy tripped over and he wasn't wearing heels so I think some people just generally lose their ability to take 10 steps on stage. I'm going to echo what someone else s...

Re:

I was an Usher at the graduation ceremonies the year I graduated and I had my raisin string on my red gown. (I decided to share the graduation gown with a friend so had to wear my red gown when I ushered her ceremony). It was also a nice conversation starter with the parents. If you're Ushering keep...

Re:

When I graduated in 2006 I picked up my gown early in the morning and then went to have my photo taken (by Ede and Ravenscroft). I decided to have my photo taken before I actually graduated as there was no queue....I'm glad I did that as after the ceremony there were long queues for the photographer...

Actually I'm currently in the North West.....although divide my time between here and Warwick for work purposes. I suppose it's the joys of being a public sector worker....the public fail to realise that we don't make the decisions, the politicians do, but however, they still feel we're fair game......

Re:

I found the St Andrews Health Centre to be rather poor quality for its service and for dealing with health queries. Over my 4 years I was misdiagnosed 5 times - two of those times resulted in me being admitted to hospital which could have been avoided if the doc had just listened to the symptoms I w...
