You are all so lucky...

You're all so lucky to be starting again in St Mary's, I am SO JEALOUS! Let me reminisce about the old place where I spent four years...what's your favourite thing about St Mary's? Mine would have to be...the bench in the quad outside the office, or perhaps the breaks mid-seminars, especially when M...

Re:

I spent a month last summer in London - and lost count of the amount of St Andrews hoodies and rugby shirts I saw...granted, they didn't have to be students but at least somehow connected with the place.

Re:

We used Fast4 this year on dial-up - not bad for £6 per month, and no call charges, 3 month min contract. Think broadband is £10, but don't know if they offer wireless. Their customer service is also reasonably good. Sole problem is that you need to give a month's advance when you cancel it, which i...

Dissertation

I began mine (due Jan 06) as term started, which worked out well - I had plenty of time to research it and could spend quite a bit of time writing. It was 12,000 words too, in Theology, and I must say, I wasn't really too stressed about the whole thing. I used to spend Monday/Tuesday on my other cou...

Re:

Does anyone know how we can find out what the prizes are for? I've just won my first and would like to know what on earth it's for! I tried the link above but it wouldn't work. Thanks!

Anyone know what time Les Alcolytes are on tonight? In middle of essay-writing, don't want to go to Broons too early if they won't be on til late... thanks!

Les Alcolytes

Anybody know if/when this jazz band is due to play in St Andrews? Heard a rumour they might be playing at the Byre this week... saw them at Broons last year, they were amazing!

Post-graduation

Anybody else moving to Edinburgh after graduation? Anybody know Edinburgh well? Which are the best areas? What is the university like? Would be interested to hear any information people have. Also seeking flatmates, please email hem3 if interested. Thanks! Helen. [hr] I'm playing all the right notes...

Re:

I researched and wrote a 10,000 word dissertation in 14 days last semester - got a 14.5. Was unbelievably stressful, but it can be done!

Re:

I took a 100% exam module last semester, and it was fantastic - next to no work throughout the term, apart from preparing for seminars and doing extra reading, so when the exam came round I had lots of notes, thoughts, ideas etc. Never done better in a module. That said, the exam was quite stressful...

I had a class last year, of about 9 people in total, two of them were engaged, one was already married, and I've got three other friends who are engaged (not to each other). Is this a St Andrews phenomenon, or does it happen at universities too? [hr] I'm playing all the right notes, just not necessa...

MSN warning

Hi, My friend's computer has just picked up a virus called 'Kelvir.worm' through clicking on a link another friend sent her over MSN. This link opened up all windows on Messenger (including mine) trying to send another link to what looked like a picture. I luckily didn't click on it. This is just a ...

Re:

I think this might be a virus - tonight my computer has started randomly shutting itself down, and yesterday it started happening to my friend's laptop - it's too much of a coincidence for so many machines to have suddenly started turning themselves off.

Les Alcoolytes at Aikmans

I heard the jazz band Les Alcoolytes are playing tonight at Aikman's - is this true? If so, what time, and will there be an entry fee? Thanks!

Re:

I'm from Ramsbottom in Bury, Lancashire. It's a very strange place indeed. Bury is as 'chav' as they come but Ramsbottom is a little bit different as I'm almost completely sure that there are some wife-swapping practices going on there. The men in Ramsbottom wear tweed and smoke pipes, and drink mul...
