Quoting Sid from 18:27, 22nd Mar 2006 You're fucking kidding me???!!!!! But he knows fuck all about union politics?!!! Students who don't get involved or know the system shouldn't vote. I hope there are appeals. So you're saying union positions should be limited to self-important hacks who live in ...

Quoting Tweedle-Dum from 01:59, 8th Jan 2006Mr Potton, are you thinking what I'm thinking: [Tobias] Joss for Chancellor?

I, for one, would rather be capped by Mr. Joss than Menzies flippin Campbell.

Re:

Quoting la jouissance from 19:59, 9th Jan 2006 I think what you mean is that none of them have a full heraldic achievement registered with the Lord Lyon. It's a bit silly to say they don't have a 'crest', when they clearly do... They clearly do not. I have never seen any Union Debating Society coat...

I submit these folks for consideration (in addition to those already mentioned). • His Majesty Constantine II, King of the Hellenes: Exiled King of Greece living in London, Olympic Gold Medalist (Sailing), overthrown by some colonels in 1967, and godfather to William Wales '05. • Merlin Charles ...

Re:

There are many criticisms to be made of the Saint , some valid, some not, but may I suggest to its plentiful detractors that perhaps the best option would be to quit moaning and either: A) Launch a takeover of the Saint and remake it as they please (It is run democratically, I'm told, so that would ...

Quoting Stuart from 19:01, 15th Oct 2005 Sick bags at the ready....... Appalling, but with shades of South Carolina. Quoting exnihilo from 21:50, 16th Sep 2005 Is there a reason to suppose that another colour of robe was worn for a period between then and now? If not, it hardly seems unreasonable that they would be red throughout, or that they would be based on colonial, nay even British, judicial robes. Certainl...

Worse is the "innovation" of the late Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the US who, to emulate the doctoral robes of the country, by his own authority added gold bands to his judicial robes' sleeves so as to distinguish himself from the rest of the members of said Court. Dare I venture to corre...

Quoting Eliot Wilson from 15:25, 30th Jun 2005 Why would the National Anthem be sung at graduation (save in the presence of the sovereign, as last week)? The Gaudeamus is sung, quite properly. Well, it's a public event of importance, why not sing it? Perhaps to demonstrate loyalty and respect for t...

There was an all-night bakery? Where was it located?!? What a loss.

I've also recently been informed that God Save the Queen is not sung at graduation. Any thoughts on this discrepancy?

Quoting legohead from 00:21, 16th May 2005 there's going to be a mass in the ruins of the cathedral tommorow at noon, if anyone's interested. I think Cardinal O'Brien will be at the service. Mystery Tie

At the tea-and-coffee following the Latin mass in Edinburgh today I ran into a friend who graduated from St Andrews (I believe in the 1970s). He noted the United College tie I was wearing, and said there used to be a tie which, if I recall him correctly, was striped gray and blue with the shield of ...

If money is no object, I'd go to NB's in the Balmoral, or the excellent bar on the top floor of Harvey Nichols in St Andrew Square - they make excellent martinis.

I found NB's fairly banal, but was placated because they have John Smith's on tap.

At a recent event, Mr. Rory Evans (a first-year I think) was seen wearing tweed jacket and waistcoat. How come we don't see many tweed waistcoats among the students? I think I might look into it when I return to the United States of Affordable in May.
