Re:

Essay marking is done on the 20 point scale. However, stuff like maths and physics is first marked out of whatever the number of marks available is, say 50, and then converted to the 20 point scale. Different exams in different years and different departments are converted differently depending on h...

Re:

Speak to one of these people (in order of preference):
Eleanor Feltham (Accomodation Advocate)
Steve Savage (Director of Representation)
James Shield (SRC Accomdoation Officer)

They can be found on the middle floor of the Union. If not then ask at the General Office and make an appointment.

Go to the reception in St Salvator's Hall, which is just behind Gonnochy. They will give you your keys. You don't need to contact them beforehand.

Re:

If you ever have any problems with ANYTHING go to Student Support Services who are on the middle floor of 'The Union'. Alternatively you can speak to Steve Savage the Director of Representation (a ex-student who is now on Sabbatical)or Iain Cupples the Student Advocate.

Re:

That's certainly an idea David and it would at least be some help. However, there is still a problem that by making A=17 and not 19 or 20, it isn't just the top grades that end up being translated to less than they should, it's the whole range of grades that get's skewed. The fact that the current t...

Re:

I wouldn't say it was "normal" to get a 20. However it is certainly very possible to get over 17. Indeed there are usually half a dozen or so people in a science class who will get over 17 for all of their modules. It's not down to luck or whether you're prof can be bothered handing one out. On the ...

Re:

Novium, I just want to be absolutely clear about what you're saying for the case of a science student: St Andrean Scientist goes to 4.0 uni for a year, and gets A grades (A+ can't/won't happen as discussed previously). When he comes back to St Andrews these are converted to 17s (anything higher is p...
