Re:

WiredSoc's currently thinking about organising a charity gaming event in Venue 1. We have a few ideas, which we're looking in to right now, and generally involves getting a load of consoles in Venue1 in a sort of arcadey way. We'd probably be charging a nominal amount per game and profits go to char...

Surely that's the point of this thread. If you have any specific issues to do with the ResNET firewall, they can be posted here.

Re:

If you have free web space, on wired say *plug*, you could host them on there. Some details on how you might do that are here: http://wired.st-and.ac.uk/node.php?id=27 http://wired.st-and.ac.uk/node.php?id=19 You can then link to that file. For example: IMAGE:wired.st-and.ac.uk/~jaa/images/moviequot...

Also, the CompSci network is run by the CompSci department, not by ITS. They have their own set of rules.

Re:

I think one of the conditions for CompSci students having access to the John Honey building is that they don't allow anyone else in. Probably an insurance thing. BTW, I don't think ITS like you using your laptops on the Uni network outside your room, either. It means unplugging one of their machines...

Re:

I hope they do cancel Buffy. Best to end on a high note, rather than do an X-Files. Season 7 is really good. Dawn isn't irritating, Willow's kind of geeky again, Spike's not so crap any more (see 7x15) and you can tell it's heading towards a Graduation Day-style ending. They're doing the cartoon tho...

Return of the ResNET firewall

Julian Crowe has just got back to me, saying that there will be a security group meeting in a couple of weeks. In his words: "If you or any of your colleagues would like to expand on the points you made in your earlier message, I'll make sure our meeting is aware of any reasoned arguments you put fo...

Re:

Just remember that you are paying £50 for this service. This is the connection fee you have to pay if you wish to get your house an ADSL connection. It's the same price as the ADSL modem. It's the same price as two months subscription to an ADSL provider. Although I can get a bit cross if my connect...

Re:

Well, do what Chris suggested: upload your pdf to wired, use pdf2ps to convert it to .ps (postscript) format, use psnup to convert it to a 6-to-a-page format, then use ps2pdf to convert that back to a pdf.

Or use a computer with a different printer. Any Hewlett Packard should do the job.

It (or at least one of them) is running on an old version of RedHat Linux with known bugs and exploits. Why? Because the manufacturer of the firewall only supports that version. I've already asked someone at ITS why there's no-one to kick the firewall (or keep resnet running) at the weekend. The ans...
