Re:

Quoting Steveo from 16:20, 12th Nov 2007 That's rather nice of his parents to e-mail you. I taught Giles many moons ago - he was a similarly thoughtful and upstanding chap. A great loss. Glad to hear that the tree's recovered; it was looking a touch sickly when I left St A's following the slight re...

Re:

I disagree. It seems quite clear that graduates of other universities *are* accorded 'proper attire'. To make sure that nobody stands out in the crowd (one of the fundamental purposes of gownage in the first place), Cambridge seems to level the playing field by age. Who are we to question their meth...

Quoting dunqn from 00:01, 31st Jul 2007 http://www.dunqn.com/v/University_Challenge_30.07.07.avi Could I just add my thanks for this? Quoting exnihilo from 17:10, 23rd Jun 2007
Because, presumably, we wouldn't want new graduates going and voting and stuff.

They couldn't vote anyway as the deadline for the new cyber ballot had passed well before the graduation diet.

I think that's an excellent suggestion - but, of course, it's coming from somebody extremely unlikely to attend, even despite alumnus rank.

Of course, should you want to go in another direction, I do believe that several of the old boys could work wonders with "TH would buy some pegs."

Re:

Quoting David Bean from 00:39, 22nd May 2007 A professional disagreement, maybe, but uncharitable un-Christian? Moi? Shurely shome mistake! :O I chose the words, as Kylie sang to the other one whose name escapes me like a pop career escaped him, especially for you. Do note that I didn't say "un-Chr...

Re:

Quoting David Bean from 16:25, 20th May 2007 a megalomaniacal madman! I would like to point out that David's portrayal is an uncharitable, unchristian and, indeed, wildly inaccurate characterization of a man who was a tireless worker on the students' behalf. I too ran one of 'super-societies' durin...

Re:

I think you'll find that he didn't say IV squad anywhere in re: squalkers, merely the folk who bore the title / didn't object to the change; I don't recall "Uncle John" being a particular friend of the more traditional aspects of the UDS, for example. Though perhaps I misread... As to IV "in jokes" ...

Re:

Quoting Al from 10:07, 24th Mar 2007 I believe the relevant authorities decided a few years ago that postgraduates coming from universities without a gown tradition can wear the gown worn by graduates of St Andrews. Unless they intend to wear it with a hood, in which case they should wear it the go...

Quoting Eliot Wilson from 18:56, 21st Mar 2007 Given some of the things I've heard said in days of yore, yes. These are not the days of yore; however, it does bear pointing out that even in that misty, bygone era, speeches which poked fun at members of the House tended to focus on prominent members...

Re:

Quoting Dickie from 20:58, 14th Mar 2007 I know, but what should one wear to vote? I think the answer is pretty obvious - disguises. Re:

Quoting David Bean from 21:21, 7th Mar 2007 Sith Lords have no sense of humour. David, you really shouldn't use absolute statements, even when dealing with the Sith (only the Sith deal in absolutes, etc.); it's just bad form, 'specially for a debater. To cite but one example to invalidate your clai...

I think Pugh said the other night that it was his 14th Courier Final or so.

Quoting Kizzy from 13:50, 23rd Feb 2007 What's a hood stabilizer? Obviously something to stabilize a hood, but how? It is something to attach your hood to in order to save you having to fix it to a button on your shirt, causing it to ride up etc. The boffins reported that Prince William wore one, a...
