Re:

This may be irrelevant (but that's never stopped me before) - just to say that I never meant to imply that anyone who was posting on this thread was trying to stop opinions on the campaign being expressed. I was instead attempting to comment on the wider issue with our beloved government seeming to ...

Re:

Depends where you are - in Hamilton we used to have decent sized wadrobes, DRH a lot smaller, and neither have much hanging space. There are usually a variety of hangers that people cannot be a**** taking home. I manage to store a fair bit in my room, and I am a compulsive hoarder - having said that...

Re:

The problem is that we will not get 'them',because the people who perpetrated this henious act are in hiding, somwehere in one of the most inaccessible areas on Earth but what we will get are Afghani citizens who don't particularly like the Taliban nor Bin Laden. The ability of a bombing campaign to...

Re:

Ah, but the kitchen attached to Cloud 9 is still condemmed, and we are officially not to know that it exists. Whether this is in any way connected to the rather strange man who occasionally visits to check on his rotting pumpkins, I really don't know. Maybe this is more appropriate for Tom's conspir...

Re:

It's horrific, just absolutely horrific. I'm stilll watching the news, and it's surreal - almost like watching a movie - I for one am still having difficulty taking it all in. Of course, my thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and all those endeavouring to aid them. I don't see...

Re:

Reasoning behind it is Iraq's weapons of mass destruction pose a threat to the region, and indeed everyone else. To what extent they do is a matter for more thorough debate, and I don't have the time or the inclination at present. Suffice to say that the War on Terror has very noble aims, but I don'...

Those figures suprise even me - I must confess that I thought there were far more English students than that. But of course, the defintions are arbitary, as you've both said. I was born in England, both my parents are from there, but I still consider myself Scottish. Because I've lived here as long ...

Re:

As regards physical requirements, for being a pilot I always thought you needed 20/20 vision. A friend of mine was turned down as a fighter pilot because he had a very slightly lazy eye - and he never wore glasses. The most that they would let him be was an engineer on a Nimrod. Having said that, I ...

Remember that if you can get over 250 signatures on a petition (or is it 100?) within 7 days, you can trigger a referendum on it...same as OneWorld are trying to do with the Burma situation.

Re:

VP I may be, but I don't pretend that I speak for the general views of the St. Andrews group, let alone the national organisation. These are my own personal views, misguided as some may think they are.......... So my view of the Guantanamo prisoners is as such - to my mind we have been fighting a wa...

I'm going to say something deeply unfashionable that will probably bring down the rest of you on my head.... I contend that in fact, the societies committe has been very good this year. My understanding of the issue of needing home addresses is the same as James - so that the Societies Officer or re...

Many.

But by this point somebody has usually made some type of nasty comment. I haven't read the board for about one week, come back, and everyone is being nice to one another. It must be the heat. And the absence of Republicana. (if you're reading this - I mean it in jest............)

I think that this Saint-bashing has got to stop. Mistakes have been made - but that is sadly the norm for any newspaper (if you don't believe me, read the Guardian's correction section. which most memorably apologised to King Herod at one point.) As for bias - all newspapers reflect the view of thei...

Re:

It's all to do wfith the costs of landing rights - British Airports Authority (BAA) owned airports in Scotland have relatively high-cost landing rights, ditto Inverness airport. So Ryanair are looking outside of that consortium ( I think it owns Edinburgh and Glasgow Airports) to try and get cheaper...

Re:

Name-changing seems to be in vouge in pubs in St. Andrews. To my knowledge, what was in my first year Mc Sorelys on Golf Place was also the Links Bar for a while, then 1 Golf Place. And that's just in 2 years.... Aktive-8 isn't a bad outdoor shop, but St. Andrews already has a good one. I am the onl...

Depending on how much they keep themselves to themselves, of course. Sorry, Thackray, just being pedantic. Your actual point is good - in my opinion, St. A's portayal as a university of Hooray Henry's and Henrietta's is based on a few people who are very effective at making themsleves heard, and for...

Re:

Just to confirm that there are now microwaves in the DRH kitchens. But I'd definately recommend the use of a padlock, and you really do put things in the fridge at your own risk. Label things, and pray. Some blocks are worse than others - generally they're not that bad - although they're nothing lik...

Re:

Let me just say before I go on this rant that this is meant to be constuctive and with the greatest of respect for others opinions. For the intafada, I think that both sides need to cut it out. Violence is indeed begetting violence but I would argue that this is as much sustained by the Israelis as ...

Re:

Very good point above. To my mind it was the same with the Middle East debate - if I recall, the proposition was "THB that the Palestinians are not ready for peace". This, to my mind, centred the whole argument around a polemical basis - oh yes they are, and oh no they aren't. I must admit that I ca...
