Re:

Quoting Al from 20:33, 15th Oct 2005
I have the feeling - possibly unfairly - that there are people active in the UDS who would relish wearing such a "fetching" ensemble.

Quoting Eliot Wilson from 22:35, 4th Oct 2005 Though some will remember Mr William Campbell ("Rising for the proposition..."), who could be spotted about town wearing a red gown, a graduate waistcoat and a St Leonard's scarf, all at the same time. It's unfortunate that noone spotted the Declaration of Arborath, but a credit to the university that noone spotted the Mel Gibson rubbish.

United College Ties--batch 2?

Given the closure of Loot, I was wondering if there would be sufficient demand to order another small batch of United College ties from Maddocks and Dick, who made up the last batch? If you're interested in one, please let me know, and I'll see if making more would be feasible. I suggest, by the way...

or even Burlington St. (A&S left the Row in March.)

Hasn't A&S recently been bought out by someone?

Re:

Single breasted, certainly. Raglan sleeves. Harris tweed, if possible. Such coats come up on eBay with surprising frequency--although avoid any with ANY signs of damage. They don't cost too much, either, and will last for ages.

Re:

I disagree.

Double boak.

Of course, this is a good thing in my case, since it will simply motivate me to accumulate enough publications and academic influence to secure a D.Litt. down the road.

Re:

Quite right, exnihilo. I still wear my red gown whenever academic dress is called for, since I don't have a graduate gown (must rememdy that soon...) and refuse to wear the gown of my Ph.D., which is American and so foul.
