With Gratitude

Thank you to whomever posted the link to the Academical Dress (hence AD) chat in another discussion zone on the site. To Be Fair

Astute watchers of Union elections will have picked up on the fact that a German girl ran for Ethnic Minorities Rep in the last round of elections and that there was no outcry. In the case of the LGBT rep, St Andrews is unusal in that the candidates do not have to be 'self-declared' members of the c...

Re:

I don't have Ronald Cant's history of the University on me; however, the idea of Deans Court having been on-site since the 11th or 12th century is surely absurd. For Deans Courts' dates, see http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/resbus/special/postgradaccomm.shtml (N.B. that said page refers to Gannochy as a ...

Isn't the newly rechristened "St Leonard's College: The Roundel" the oldest 'house' in St Andrews?

Trenchers

The story of the throwing of the mortar boards into the sea is a common one and is not unique to St Andrews. I understand that despite the unfeasibly long walk that it would entail, that the students of Durham also claim to have done the same thing to protest the admission of women. The black cloth ...

Don't stand on one leg...

The St Andrews contingent didn't make it to the filming stage of this year's University Challenge... will have to try harder next time around.

Re:

The University claimed there'd be some sort of facility for online merchandise purchase in the Alumnus Chronicle that came out a few months back. Quite typically, the weblink was just to http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk so draw your own conclusions.
