There are quite a few who offer "free" dial-up though 0808 numbers. Try looking at: http://www.ispreview.co.uk/ I used SurfAnyTime(http://www.ispreview.co.uk/review/censura.php?cmd=details&itemid=142 ) before I got broadband. They seemed as good or better than any other dial-up provider I've used.

Also disable any firewalls on those two computers while they are plugged into each other and you are trying to get it work. As they could be also be blocking it.
