True Story

In the mid-1990s I sent a letter to my academic father. I didn't actually know his address, but wrote: Name Mailslot in the blue door, first on left Alley next to Shop Name on Market St. St Andrews, Fife It was delivered no problem! And I sent part of my semi year mailing weird stuff and receiving w...

Re:

Quoting munchingfoo from 13:53, 1st Aug 2006 My issue us with the logic behind it. How can it possibly cost more to deliver one 1.25kg package than it does to deliever one 1kg and one .25kg package? [hr] Well, in the latter case you have two packages to track and process through each stage of tehir...

Re:

RBS are appalling. I kept my account with them and First Direct (HSBC now, I think) when I went to the US to do a PhD. RBS took two years to change my address, then, when I moved and informed them of this (by FAX and registered letter) they simply stopped sending my statements. Fine. A year passes a...

Re:

I wear mine frequently. It does serve rather well as a introduction tool at academic conferences, helping me to find others who wouldn't mind propping up the bar rather than listen to dull papers delivered in a monotone by people wearing polyester.

Quoting Paranoid from 18:53, 5th Jan 2006 You gotta wonder, in another 200 years will people still believe that there were 2 World Wars in the 20th Century, I mean someone in the future will still undertake the Remembrance service (hey it might become as commercialised as Christmas!) but how many w...

Re:

Quoting exnihilo from 13:05, 20th Dec 2005 My local outfitters will vend you the tie in a range of lengths, to suit a range of heights. So should I wish to own something so astoundingly ugly, I can do so without fear, as they say around these parts, "o' bein' lift'd by the polis". Or, indeed, being...

Re:

Quoting exnihilo from 10:17, 15th Dec 2005 The straight tie's easier. There are about a hundred schools up and down the country who use the self same pattern as their school tie. Quoting Sr. AGiC. from 13:05, 28th Nov 2005 Quoting The Dude from 17:53, 26th Nov 2005 Are all nobility on the civil list in Britain? Re:

Quoting from 16:13, 26th Nov 2005
I recall Matthew Stanhope claiming to be the Earl of Stanhope or related to some such person.

If he was, he wouldn't bother claiming this, I'm sure.
