Re: The KK - Is this the end for our intrepid duo (and some)??!

Following the old Sinner Tradition What about them folks who seem to genuinely think they're the wrong gender? Which way would that skew things? Does biology still act as the discriminator, or would it be neuroscience (if that were the root of the problem, of course)? Interesting case. I'd love to ...

Re: The KK - Is this the end for our intrepid duo (and some)??!

Intelligence, like sex, may also not be something that people have control over, why is it any less of a crime than gender discrimination? Universities, as places of higher learning, are set out for people with an incentive to use intellectual capabilities. It is not necessarily intelligence that i...

Re: The KK - Is this the end for our intrepid duo (and some)??!

Georgina mentions staff in the Procession, will that now be forbidden, will staff have to resign from any single sex clubs they belong to? As a private person, anyone is free to do whatever they please. I believe the issue is University staff taking part while being in their official capacities - i...

Re: The KK - Is this the end for our intrepid duo (and some)??!

Our traditions are our conversation with our predecessors and our successors. When we permit our traditions to become a legitimisation for the exclusion of others we do those traditions a disservice. We cherish our traditions but we must never allow them to become a rationalisation for the protecti...

Re: The KK - Is this the end for our intrepid duo (and some)??!

I wanted to press 'reply' and say GOOD FOR YOU to our new principal. I went as far as opening the window... Do it, I've also heard of a few others who have responded to her! She is also doing this because she believes this is what students would like to see done, so I'm sure she'll be very apprecia...

Re: The KK - Is this the end for our intrepid duo (and some)??!

The race remark was of a general nature, I'm sure, the KK does not discriminate based on race, only on gender. The Lumsden Club is female-only. The difference between the two is that the KK is a whole lot more visible in dealings with the University. While the Lumsden Club holds their 'charitable' e...

Re: Police possibly caused G20 death

For my part I see it as tragic, but it's not as if this was an example of extreme police brutality. It was a tough shove to a guy who seemingly hadn't done anything wrong and, even, had his back turned. It's not as if he was bundled to the ground then shot in the head for getting on a train, for in...

What games will the Union show tonight, does anyone know? And any place in St Andrews where I could watch Barcelona - Bayern with a decent pint in front of me? Cheers!

Re: Bored

Tea parties can be fantastic indeed! The equivalent for a Saturday night could be board games party - get out your copies of Monopoly, Taboo, Apples to Apples, Cranium or even just a deck of cards and get some friends over. Make it a pot-luck dinner, or just get people to bring home-made nibbles for...

Re: Bomb scare at the Bute

A search of the building has confirmed that this was a hoax and the matter is being investigated by Fife Constabulary. Ah well. EDIT - For the general amusement of fellow sinners, this is how the US National Rifle Association pictured animal rights activists in a "leaked pamphlet" from a ...

Re: Strange question - nose hairs??

There's little gadgets to help you do it in the privacy of your own home - I'm sure Argos would have something, and they won't be terribly expensive, either.

Re: DRA Ball

The DRA ball was a lot better than I had thought it would be, to be honest. The music was great, the bars not overly busy and the atmosphere good. It's a shame it wasn't better attended, towards midnight it seemed quite empty, until the last act came on, and eventually everyone fit into the smaller ...

Re: Italian Lessons

If you're quick, you may still be able to join one of the evening language classes. Have a look on the university webpage for them. There is a fee of something like 75 pounds for the semester.
