Re:

Quoting Bryn from 17:47, 21st Mar 2006 Hmmm... I'm very dubious about this. Is the study always in that order, ie. you do Straight - Good, Gay - Bad first, and then the other way around? If so, there may be order effects, in that your reaction time the second time around may be effected merely by t...

It annoys me when people say "well, my vote won't really count, why bother voting?" when looking at the results for SSC Equal Oppertunities and Welfare officer you can see how close it was.

Train tickets

Train tickets are far too expensive: discuss.

I usually pay between £30-35 for a return ticket, Leuchars to Manchester. However, it has now gone up to a whopping £50. I can't actually afford that price, so I am having to buy a £37 single ticket.

Ridiculous!

Firstly, yes, Stephen Fry's nephew is here, he is in 2nd year and his name is William Fry. Secondly, I was at the talk yesterday, given by Prof. Kay Jamison, author of "An Unquiet Mind" It was a riveting talk, about her personal experiences of manic-depression, her in-depth knowledge of the field an...

I went with my academic son, and I think I might have been one of the only people there who wasn't already on the SRC/SCC/Sabs or their friends etc. My other friends said they were going to come, but "they didn't want to get wet". I knew for a fact they didn't want to go at all, I would have prefere...

Re:

Seth- At the hecklings this evening you mentioned about how the older halls have an atmosphere and community which the newly built halls of residence lack, and how this needs to be changed. But seeing as Hamilton has been sold, and the university is considering selling more of the older halls in fav...

Mr Giles- What would you plans be regarding the university's recycling policy? From my 3rd year onwards, the halls of residence, and some of the Schools within the univerisity have adopted a system of recycling glass, cans, plastic and paper, with varying success. Do you plan to extend/change/re-org...

I would just like to say how nice of you it is to have the final of the Inter-Residence Competition in Hamilton Hall next Wednesday, as it is the hall's last year. We had a speaker in a red gown announce it today, and he said a donation will be given to the Hamilton Hall Comittee. On behalf of every...

Re:

Quoting Lodestone from 11:49, 8th Mar 2006 But you're right, it's a question of intent. The makers of Gollies (or of jam) didn't get up one morning and think "right, let's make these grinning black dolls, that should piss off the wogs and show how superior we are". I'd be willing to bet that they d...

Quoting Lodestone from 11:47, 7th Mar 2006 Lodestone - internalisation of stereotypes only occurs at that age if they are pointed out and impressed on children, by adults. Children are blind to these differences until just before they become adolescent - one only has to go to an international schoo...

Re:

The only reason that Psychology is offered as both an MA and a BSc is because of historical reasons apparently. They used to differ slightly years ago, but now the course is exactly the same. If you look at most other UK univeristies they offer Psychology as both an arts and science degree too- its ...

Re:

Lodestone,

For St.Andrews branded stuff, go to the Tourist office although it can be a bit tacky.

Bonkers on Market Street is great for gifts, they do really nice candles and stationary. And the Gift Gallery (also on Market Street) is good too.

Hope that helps!
