Make up

Postby Nymphomanic on Tue May 03, 2005 10:27 am

Hey

Am going to the ball, so v. ecited. Only prob is I can't do make up at all.

I'm dyspraxic, which basically means I'm totally clumsy and have crap coordination, so mascara and lippy end up all over the place. Can anyone advise me on how to do it simply, or even possibly give me a hand.

I have friends who can do make up but their all busy. I also can't afford to go to an expensive salon.

Any advice would be great.

I have a flyer from a hair dressers for various things- I was handed it because I was thinking of getting a manicure- that does make up for 15 pounds.

Barring that, go to a mall and go to a make up counter. They'll put make up on you to try and sell it to you. buy a lipstick or something.

Well, one method I use for an unsteady hand is to stand really close to the mirror and actualy press my forearm of back of my wrist against it or the frame. This helps keep it more steady when doing such awfully fiddly things like liquid eyeliner. But practice makes perfect. I was hopeless with such things as liquid eyeliners but forced myself to practice until now I am the envy of my makeup-fan friends. I always find it impossible having my mascara or eyeliner done by another person. It sends me into a frenzy of blinking I can't control, but oddly enough when I do it myself, not a flicker.

You could see if the Body Shop will do you a makeover on the day.

I think you can go to Boots in Dundee and they like do a free makeover thing at some of the stalls - of course its courtesy to buy some of their makeup afterwards but buying an eyeshadow or something may be cheaper than a makeover! However, im not sure how good they are or how much they would listen to what you want. Could be worth a shot though! I know what you mean - i have awful trouble with it because I wear glasses and am practically blind - its a little hard to put on makeup delicately when you cant actually see what you are doing!

Okay i trained as a make-up artist before coming to st andrews so i might be able to help.

Basic rule is if you have cool colouring (as in blonde hair, pinkish skin, light eyes) then stick to cool colours, like pink, lilac, blue, green, silver etc.

And if you have warm skin (as in dark hair, dark eyes and orange skin tones) then stick to warm colours like brown, gold, bronze etc.

Apply foundation after moisturiser has settled, follow with concealer if needed and then powder. Then cheeks, then eyes then lips. Always blot lipstick with a tissue after applying and then reapply so it lasts longer. Oh and use brushes if you can.

Hope this helps
