Picking Modules

Postby lynz on Thu Jun 30, 2005 9:14 am

I'm sorta confused about how the whole "module" thing works. Do I have to pick my thrid module before I arrive at St Andrews in September or does all of this happen in Fresher's week?

I'm doing French and beginners Spanish, I was thinking for my thrid module of doing music, film studies or russian or something. Anybody who has done any of these subjects especially music, your help would be much appreciated.

Thanks for any replies

You need to decide on which 120 credits (e.g. six 20 credit modules) you wish to do over the academic year. Fill in the current form with that information.

Once you arrive, you will meet with your advisor in Presessional, who will go over your course choices and change any of the modules (for any reason that you or your advisor have). If you are still not happy with your choice, you can change courses up to the end of Week 2 (Week 1 starts after Presessional). For Candlemas Semester modules, this means you can change any time during the Martinmas Semester, and the first two weeks of the Candlemas Semester.

Therefore, you should fill in all of your modules for the coming year, as none of your module choices are final at this stage.

Ditto.

It seems you have 80 credits with your current modules already, so you'll need 2 other courses for the year.

Some choose modules in order to get credits easily, others do them out of interest and others again do them to have something nice in their CV.

A mix of that might be the best solution.

My personal tip: Philosophy.

Take whatever interests you the most. I have an academic daughter (lucky girl ;) ) who studied music - she's actually a very talented musician, though naturally I would say that - and she took a lot from it, so if that's what floats your boat, go with it and don't look back. Once you reach the stage where you're applying to jobs, no employer will care what you took earlier on, so you might as well take advantage of this and do whatever feels right for you.

Hey!!!
I did higher italian and i am spending most of my holidays learning SOME spanish, just so i'm not completely clueless during my first year- that would be a good start for me!!!

I'm staying in University Hall. You? If you want to e-mail me, my e-mail address is averyeasyname@hotmail.com

I'm really confused about where to start with my spanish and slightly scared at the whole University thing, although I must say, I am also very excited.

its not really a big deal if you haven't got all your modules picked. when i showed up I hadn't picked them all, but it all gets sorted out freshers week anyway, when you meet with your advisor.
