What does D mean in your exam results

it means 'deferred' as in , deferred assessment.

Surely you'd know that you're deferring that exam and be able to guess what the D would stand for :-P

well thats what i thought too, but i have a 'd' next to a module that i got deffered assessment on, so i assumed it was the same.
