east sands leisure centre- prices?

Postby msi6 on Sun Dec 02, 2007 4:55 pm

I live closer to east sands leisure centre than the uni sports centre so was thinking about going to the gym there- anybody have any idea how much it costs? just for using the gym a weekday evening. I've heard that it's going to shut down, anybody know when? (unless it already has :S !)

thank you :)

When it closes for christmas it won't re-open until February. I can't remember the exact price but its somewhere around £3. Not expensive anyway.

I missed that it was closing. If it's reopening in February then presumably this is for refurbishment?

If you get a Fifestyle card (available from the Citizen's Advice Bureau by the union or from the local library for £5) you can go swimming half price, and I'm pretty sure the gym is also reduced. I can check the price list when I get home for you.

If you get an application form for a fifestyle card from the leisure centre and take it to the cash office to stamp to prove you are a student you can pay for a year pass of i think £35 for a gold membership. This lets you into the gym, the steam bath area with the jaccuzi, and also the swimming pool. With that you don't have to pay at all for the whole year.
It only lasts during term time, so if you stay here during the summer you have to pay again.
I was told that the gym is still open, it is only the swimming pool etc. that has been closed for refurbishment.

All I know is that an hour of swimming without membership is £3.10

OK, these are the prices with a Fifestyle card:

Swimming - £1.55
1 hour Gym - £2
1/2 hour Gym - £1.60

It's a couple of quid for a gym induction/familiarisation. I don't see why you wouldn't get the discount card if you were going to use it regularly, but without it the prices are double. I hadn't heard about 'gold membership'.

Also, the swimming isn't timed, as far as I know.

Never heard of that!! Are you sure its a fifestyle card, not sometihing differnt? Fifestyle cards can be got from the council building next to the union for £5 plus filling in a form and some proof you are a student. This gives you a 50% discount on use of anything (apart from room hire)in the liesure centre. And it DOES last over the summer - runs out at the end of September tho, no matter when you bought it

I got a student fifestyle card, it must have been that having one of those gave me a yearly membership, instead of having to buy a monthly one. And there are different types of membership. There is a big board explaining the different types quite clearly just as you walk in, and you can ask at the desk.
If you're planning on going regularly, you may as well get a membership and then you don't pay anything else on top.
