Buying a printer

Postby G L on Fri Jul 06, 2007 8:49 pm

I'd like to buy a printer - does anyone have any advice about makes to buy/avoid, or places to buy from? I'm thinking of a portable printer that just does your basic essays and -hopefully- is reasonably reliable. I'm UK based.

I'll do my own research too, but personal reports/general reputations are always helpful, so any comments much appreciated, thanks!

I've only ever had one printer (a Lexmark, and it was alright) so I can't really comment on which types are the best, but what I will say is to not only look at the price of the printer itself, but also the price of the ink cartridges!

I've got a Lexmark attached to my family PC at home and it's total junk (and was when we bought it actually, but that's besides the point). The cartridges cost a fortune and it's really inefficient in its ink usage as well.

I've got a Canon away at Uni with me. Canon make good ones, they're well worth looking at. Relatively cheap, compact and the cartridges last far far longer I've found.

In general look a cartridge price. I've got a cannon IP2000 cost about £50 a year ago. Works well does decent colour and fast black and white. However the best part is cartridges are about a £1 each on eBay. So you never have to worry about the cost of printing things.
