I've known hamsters to be discovered and the offending residents were offered a £15 fine or "community service" - they picked the fine. The hamster was re-located (to another Hall...)
The felons in this case picked the fine - I wonder what the community service would've been....

And the question by Bizarre as to they got away with it, I believe that if you can befriend a cleaner, you can get away with nearly anything in some halls!!

The pets thing is a Hall regulation, the candles ban is pursuant to Fire Saftey regulations, and therefore a violation is against the law.

That's actually an interesting point: Unless they can prove that it was alive this year, they can't charge you for having a pet.
If they claim they saw it alive and it died over break, threaten to sue for failing to intervene over possible animal cruelty/neglect.

We have mice in DRA (NOT pets and uninvited, I might add) and Residence Admin don't give a damn.
