Sorry no advice but would love more details! Which hall? What kind of fish? Did you really think it would live on its own for 2 weeks unattended and unfed? How have you managed to get away with it so far?

They had made plans for feeding, I believe said fish was given a holiday feed stick. The fish was also getting on in age, and cause of death is unknown. Just to clarify, the issue here is the fact that the person in question is facng a discplinary meeting with warden of their hall, which is why they are in need of help. The hall in question is NOT any we have a board for on this forum, hence the message being posted here. I will not post any other details here unless cat_maclean4 does so themselves out of respect to them. And the question by Bizarre as to they got away with it, I believe that if you can befriend a cleaner, you can get away with nearly anything in some halls!!

EDIT x 2 - Spelling up the creek!!

My only guess would be polite, apologetic and plead ignorance of the lease terms.

I've known hamsters to be discovered and the offending residents were offered a £15 fine or "comunity servie" - they picked the fine. The hamster was re-located (to another Hall...)

The felons in this case picked the fine - I wonder what the community service would've been....

Say it has always been dead when it's been in your possession- therefore it's not a pet, it's food.

That's actually an interesting point: Unless they can prove that it was alive this year, they can't charge you for having a pet.

If they claim they saw it alive and it died over break, threaten to sue for failing to intervene over possible animal cruelty/neglect.

There's something not quite right here. i'm glad the punishment was nothing more serious, but my flatmate and i were charged £100 pounds between us for badly-timed candles on a birthday cake. That suddenly seems pretty steep when a pet only costs you £15.

The pets thing is a Hall regulation, the candles ban is pursuant to Fire Saftey regulations, and therefore a violation is against the law.

Ahh ok - that makes sense. Will just have to put hamsters on the next birthday cake.

I got caught with my rats in fife park last year - i was given a letter saying that i was to remove them and that someone would be around on a specific date to check they were gone. I moved them back in a couple of days after they checked and wasn't caught again (was only caught in the first place cos i was the unlucky recipient of one of those random checks that they don't give you warning of which i'm sure aren't legal :-P)

I guess the rules in self-catered are a bit less strict than in proper halls :-)

We have mice in DRA (NOT pets and uninvited, I might add) and Residence Admin don't give a damn.

we had mice in our flat in DRA in first year - they eventually put poison down and we had to call the porter to get rid of a little dying mouse one night - then they later had the cheek to claim we had imagined them!
