ECTS Credits

Postby The Penguin Of Death! on Sun Jul 02, 2006 10:14 pm

If I complete a summer course that results in an award of ECTS credits can they be transferred over here into St Andrews credits? (eg. 10 ECTS credits are worth 20 st andrews credits)
They would be from a recognised establishment (another european university), but would the university be willing to put them onto my record?

I'm afraid I'm going to be totally useless here, but what are ECTS credits and what kind of course awards them?

This explains it -
http://www.europeunit.ac.uk/qualifications/ects.cfm

1 european credit = 2 st andrews credits, i know that much.
And I *think* that most european univesities award them. I just haven't been able to find anything about transferring them to st andrews, however there is a form in the registry website for transferring st andrews credits to ECTS credits at another uni.....it's all so confusing!
I will be doing a course at a swedish university this summer that is worth 7.5 ECTS credits (=15 of our credits)

Had you thought of emailing registry at St.A?
The registrar is Lorraine Fraser (lef1@)

When you do a year abroad you get ECTS credits to transfer to St Andrews credits.

But from friend's experiences there is no way that the Uni will accept credits from another institution unless arranged by them (year abroad).
