Gowns and how to wear them?

I was just wondering what the official way to wear gowns is for different years? (like off which shoulder etc etc)

Bejant: on the shoulders
Semi-bejant: back on the shoulders
Tertian: off the right shoulder if you're in the Faculty of Science, or the left in the Faculty of Arts
Magistrand: off both shoulders

Otherwise known as the 'academic striptease' if i remember correctly from my first year. sounds much more exciting that what it actually is!

Thanks, Im wearing mine for the first time in a few days (I'm a fourth year) and wanted to get it right! heh


And what about 5th year? can they do whatever they like?

I think so. Maybe one of our academic dress enthousiasts can advise.

I believe fifth years wear them even further down them the Magistrands. Probably somewhere round their ankles.

I believe postgraduates are supposed to stew their gowns and then consume them, or have them sewn into their armpits.
