Huge bookshops

Postby Nymphomanic on Fri Aug 03, 2007 9:58 am

Does anyone know of a massive second hand bookshop where can get reasonable academic books. I know there's Barnardo's but they don't have quite what I want and the bouquiniste is too specialised and expensive. I need to get about thirty books - which altogether would come to about £220 - or more if I got them new.

Are there any huge second hand bookshops on Edinburgh or Dundee?

I don't know of any places in the UK, but I often buy books over the internet, and eventually found a very cheap place, that acts for charity too:

It takes about 2 weeks to get them, which may be a bit too long, but the books I got were in very good condition and cheap (I recently bought a Maths book for $10.21 instead of the £75 RRP)

hm i dont know about big second hand bookshops, but i know whereabouts in Edinburgh there are a lot of small ones. On Nicholson Street there's an Oxfam bookshop, as well as a few bookstores along Buccleuch Street. You're more likely to find second hand academic stuff around this area as Nicholson st and buccleuch st are nextdoor to Edinburgh university.

There's also a string of second hand stores at the west end of the grassmarket/ on the west port, which may not have much academic stuff.

Hope this helps:)

www.bookbutler.co.uk is also good for online shopping; it compares tons of shops and calculates postage into the final price

amazon marketplace?

You have to pay £2.75 postage for EACH book, but you can still be ahead in with some of the discounts.
