Yet another graduation question

Postby kas48 on Tue Apr 08, 2008 10:44 pm

This may be a stupid question, but what should my boyfriend wear to come to the graduation ceremony? My grandparents are also coming, but somehow I know they'll be fine.

Most male partners or family tend to some in a suit, or shirt and smart trousers. He would probably be best in a suit with a shirt and no tie, unless he wants to be particularly formal.

I wore a kilt with a culloden shirt for my girlfriend's graduation. see http://www.college-of-piping.co.uk/acatalog/110010G.jpghttp://

There was a reasonable number of kilts in the audience, mostly with tweed jackets if I remember rightly.

Yes, a Kilt is best, but please bring proof of nationality.

At this point shouldn't someone be saying that if he's a graduate of the University of Such-and-such then he could wear his gown and hood appropriate to his highest degree, unless it's a University of Somewhere hood because there's an ancient rule saying they're banned etc etc... ?

Nah, because if that was the case I wouldn't have bothered asking.

I'd probably advise against a man wearing a skirt to a graduation ceremony. It's not big and it's not clever.

The correct attire is a dark suit with tie. And not one with reindeers or any other stupid crap on it.

I don't hate the Scottish, or in fact Scotland. I was just pointing out the entirely obvious fact that the kilt is a skirt. I'm not being derogatory, is someone a bit self conscious?
