Car MOTs

Postby sqril on Wed May 07, 2008 8:43 pm

Pretty basic question, my car needs its MOT soon...can anyone reccommend (or advise against) any garages around here?
Thanks

We always take ours to Bassaguard and they seem pretty good.

Go there for new tyres. Go to America for Jiffy Lube. I don't know why, but it always makes me smile driving past a Jiffy Lube, or a Quick Lube in the States.

I used to go to Bassaguard and sing its praises, but after a long and protracted three month struggle with them to believe me that it was them that broke my exhaust (fine before it went in - they replaced a part of it - it rattled so violently I couldn't drive it properly anymore) I've gone right off them. Just a word of warning.

Recommened McConechy's (next to the Royal Mail sorting office) very very very highly. Been a customer there for years and have never ever had a problem. Great service and great value for money. Only prob is - they are usually v busy so book asap.

Try a mobile mechanic service - they are a lot cheaper as they dont have premises

McConechy's charged me for a light bulb and that was all ....
And the tax obviously, but I thought my old banger would need a bit done to it so Very good for me.

Bassaguard are very good, but as they were very busy when I last had my MOT done, I went to Edenside Motors (in Guardbridge).

Although it's not as convenient, they're very quick, and it only cost £50. (Previous MOTs have cost me around £200 at Bassaguard!*)

I would recommend McConecheys. My car needed a new clutch but I wasn't sure there was much point as MOT was due...they pre-mot'd it for me and said whether it was worth doing or not. I was a bit skeptical but when I took it back they passed it - no work needed whatsoever and car is 14 year old! They are lovely. Picked car up from my house as well when it wasn't drivable!
