student loan screw up

Postby fluffy on Fri Sep 19, 2008 5:46 pm

the SLC didn't send me a payment schedule, or ask teh uni to confirm my attendance as they did last year, and as such I haven't received the loan, thought they told me it was scheduled in today. they said if i go to the uni and ask them to send a confirmation they may do so without me having to wait for the paperwork the SLC are now sending out - it's a case of getting the money in five days rather than in two weeks, which is a big difference when you owe rent!!

But this is the question: - Who do I ask to confirm my attendance? Which department do I go to?

Thanks.

I would think that all this could be done in the Old Union Reception on North Street. They should be open tomorrow, just pop in there and be persistent, and they may get it all sorted straight away. Try to go really, REALLY early though before hordes of Freshers and their parents take over ;) !

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once.

The Old Union Reception opens tomorrow at 10.45am. Also, no one gets their loan until the University has confirmed their attendace, which they do once you have Matriculated. Unfortunately, this is always later than the date given on your payment schedule, this only affects your September payment the other ones come through as per the schedule, but that doesn't help with rent now...

The Old Union Reception should be able to sort you out. If money is still an immediate concern, you could try:

The University's Hardship Fund:

...or even asking for an extended overdraft or short-term loan from your bank, providing them with proof that your student loan will be arriving.

...then again, that is only my opinion.
