Good horror and gruesomeness

Postby Frank on Tue Sep 23, 2008 3:05 pm

Right, I'm up for some good(ish) horror films at the moment. Haven't seen much lately, but my watching-mate has so a good selection would be welcome. So either new, old, obscure, foreign etc. Some recommendations, especially ones I can get from the library!

I really enjoyed Rec when I watched it recently. By far the scariest film I've seen in a while.

Just watched Doomsday. Very excellent in terms of dialogue and some of the nastiest gore I've ever seen.

I'm not a fan of gory films, but I did go on a big horror-film kick when I was younger. My favorite horror film (although it's in the psychological suspense/ghost genre, not the slasher film genre) is Stir of Echoes.
I remember having nightmares from the Devil's Advocate. I also liked humor with my horror, so I loved tongue-in-cheek films like the Frighteners, Lake Placid, and Deep Rising and all those other movies with B movie souls.
Neither the storms of crisis, nor the breezes of ambition could ever divert him, either by hope or by fear, from the course that he had chosen

or good horror films: The Ginger snaps trilogy, Cemetary Man, Shadow of the Vampire, May, American werewolf in London (not paris that one sucked) and any of the George Romero movies

For bad but awsome/gory films I'd say, return of the living dead 1-6 (actually I think they may be up to 8 by now) house of the dead one and two, 30 days of night, the dawn of the dead remake and (my fave) Brain dead
Enjoy! :D
