Where can I get my dissertation bound?

Postby DaftPunk on Wed Nov 26, 2008 2:32 pm

My dissertation is due a week on friday (5th December) and I was wondering where I can get it printed and bound? How much does it cost and how much time should I allow for this to be done?

Thanks :)

Two options.

  • Print it yourself and bring it to the Print Unit. Soft binding £3 per copy, hard binding £20 per copy.

The Print Unit is at 65 North Street.

Directions from the Main Library: Go up North Street and turn to your left, keep on the same side of the Street, and walk straight on. When you arrive at the St. Salvator's Hall Gate, please turn to your left. Right after the gate, the first building on your left.

Directions from the Younger Hall: Turn right and keep on the same side of the Street, and walk straight on, till the phone box at the corner. You will be at the entrance of St Salvator's Hall. Please turn to your right and right after the gate, the first building on your left.

  • Bring it to the Reprographics Unit in electronic form (preferably PDF). They will print it at 5p per page and bind it in comb binding, wire binding or Unibind. Photos and prices.

The Reprographics Unit is at St Katharine's West, 16 The Scores.

Soft binding will be done the same day if you submit it early. Hard binding will be done by the next day.

You can get it bound in the general office at the union for a few pounds. They do it while you wait, takes about 2 minutes.

Note that not all academic schools accept the union's binding. Computer science, for instance, insists you use the university's own service.

This is one of the questions people never stop asking, along with such favourites as

  • When is the exam timetable coming out?
  • When are exam results coming out?
  • Where is Gateway Lecture Room 3/Younger Hall/Younger Hall Conference Room/Stewart Room/Old Union Diner/Parliament Hall/Psychology Old Library?
  • Where can I get a good haircut?
  • Where can I find a good driving instructor?
  • How do I sign someone into the Union?

So I did my best to answer it once and for all, and made it sticky. When the rest of the above questions get asked, I'll do the same.

How long does it take to get your diss bound? Are they likely to be so busy come week 10 that you'll need to book a slot?

They told us to come back 30 minutes later at the Print Unit, or you could theoretically wait for it while they do it and take it back immediately, just have to make sure not to open it for a while so the glue has time to harden. I don't think they'll be overly busy even then, but it may be a good idea to give it in a few hours in advance, just in case.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once.
